Dear Cougar Families,
Welcome to an exciting and productive fall at Coleman Place Elementary! September is Attendance Awareness Month, and our motto is simple: Every Student, Every Day, On Time. Thank you for partnering with us to build strong daily habits for our scholars.
📌 Daily Schedule & Uniforms
* Doors Open & Breakfast: 8:40 AM – 8:54 AM
* Instruction Begins: 8:55 AM sharp (Students arriving after 8:55 AM are marked tardy)
* Dismissal: 3:20 PM
* Uniform Policy: Burgundy tops and khaki bottoms are required every day.
📌 Tardy Arrival Reminder
For the safety and accountability of all students, parents/guardians must accompany their child into the school building and sign them in when arriving tardy. If the tardy is due to an appointment or other excusable reason, please provide appropriate documentation at that time.
📌 Attendance
For student absences, written excuse notes, doctor's notes, or other required documentation should be submitted to the school promptly upon the student's return. Timely submission of notes helps ensure attendance records are accurate and absences are coded appropriately.

* Sept 23: Open House (5:00 PM – 6:30 PM | Enter through the Gym)
* Sept 24: End of Interim 1
* Sept 25: Books for Breakfast (8:00 AM – 8:40 AM | Cafeteria entrance, park on Rush St.)
* Sept 25: Picture Day (Uniforms required)
* Oct 5: Parent/Teacher Conferences
* Oct 7: PTA Meeting (4:30 PM in the Media Center)
* Oct 27: End of 1st Quarter
📌 Dismissal & Safety Reminders Student safety is our top priority. Students are released exclusively to approved adults listed in our official records, and a valid Photo ID is strictly required at all pickup locations.
* Parent Pick-Up: Rush Street Cafeteria Doors
* Car Riders: Ride & Kiss Lane on Palmyra Street (have your student pickup card visible)
* Preschool: Classroom back doors near the playground
* Bus Riders: Please review safety rules with your child (stay seated facing forward, keep hands inside, use quiet voices, and wait 10 feet back from the curb). Route information is available at cpes.npsk12.com.
📌 PTA Membership Drive & Ice Cream Challenge Our PTA directly funds classroom resources, school programs, and family events. Memberships are just $5, and the classroom with the most registered members by September 18 wins an ice cream party!

* Virtual Peace of Mind: Free school-based tele-mental health services for K–12 students and families, accessible 7 days a week (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM).

* Salvation Army Angel Tree: Holiday assistance for children ages 0–12. Apply by September 30, 2026 at saangeltree.org.
* Norfolk Public Schools has partnered with Hampton Roads Community Health Center to ensure that students are up to date with immunizations and dental care. The program is free of charge; however, in the event that a student does have insurance and there is a copayment, HRCHC will cover the cost.
