Shout out to Ms. Nita and Ms. Tamesha Dunlap for not judging me for my . Rushing out of the house this morning, I forgot my child's
shoes. All I had was a pair of his rain boots in the trunk. When he clonked in to school, red rain boots (and no rain in sight) they acted like it was no big deal at all!

Experience the benefit of a Montessori Education. The Montessori Education was founded by Dr. Maria Montessori (1870-1952).

Dr. Montessori believed that self motivation is the only valid impulse to learning. Her philosophy focuses on the developmental needs of the child with the freedom to explore within limits. Her philosophy focuses on quality not quantity.

Norfolk 17!

The Norfolk School Board resolution from September 27, 1958, shows the names of the Norfolk 17--the exceptional, young Black students who were the first to enroll in NPS--and the schools to which they were assigned.

Two days later, Virginia's governor ordered the closure of six all-White Norfolk schools as part of a strategy of "Massive Resistance" to integration. Nearly 10,000 students-the "Lost Class of 1959"- went without schooling.

Meanwhile, the Norfolk 17 studied at Bute Street First Baptist Church-just blocks from where the School Central Administration Building stands today-and received training on how to desegregate all-White schools.

Massive Resistance ended on February 2, 1959, when the 17 Black students listed in the picture, enrolled. They attended school and excelled academically. They endured harassment, isolation, and threats, but kept their experiences private to protect the desegregation effort.

The efforts of the Norfolk 17, the Lost Class of 1959, and the voices of those who struggled for justice, freedom, and human dignity during those troubled times will be honored and commemorated with a new piece from Norfolk ARTS - "End of Massive Resistance" to be dedicated on Thursday, April 27, at Norfolk's Flatiron Park.

Happiest happy holidays ~~ from our staff, parents and students to yours!

Happy Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa and New Year!

NMA will open at 8:30 AM tomorrow, October 4, 2022.

Due to continued impacts from this weekend’s inclement weather event, Norfolk Public Schools will operate under a TWO-HOUR DELAY on Tuesday, October 4, 2022.
While weather conditions continue to improve, after consultation with the City of Norfolk’s Emergency Operations Center, the NPS administration has decided to delay the start time of schools by two hours out of an abundance of caution.
Please be advised of the following:
• Downed limbs and high waters may still be affecting parts of the City on Tuesday morning. School buses may be delayed.
• Parents/guardians of students who walk to school should remind their children to stay away from standing water.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter and stay safe!

As a reminder, Norfolk Montessori Academy (NMA) follows Norfolk Public Schools (NPS) as it relates to inclement weather. It has been reported that NPS will be closed on Monday, October 3, 2022 due to the forecasted weather. This means that NMA will also be CLOSED.

We will keep you updated regarding the status for Tuesday, October 4th.

Thank you and be safe!

Due to the forecast of strong wind gusts, rain, and the prediction of historic flooding, Norfolk Public Schools will be CLOSED for students and staff on Monday, October 3, 2022.

All after-school and athletic activities are cancelled, including YMCA, Norfolk Parks and Recreation, Champions, Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeast Virginia, Southside Boys and Girls Club, and Berkley/Campostella Early Childhood Education Center.

Essential personnel should report to work locations at the direction of their supervisor.

The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) has also advised that continuing strong winds and rain may cause additional power outages and downed trees.

We urge all our families to prepare for this inclement weather and to monitor the weather forecast over the next two days as the remnants of Hurricane Ian continue to affect our communities.

The NPS administration will continue to monitor weather conditions and will provide updates as needed, including the possibility of a delayed start or closure on Tuesday, October 4, 2022. Please stay attentive to NPS’ communications tools including telephone voicemail messages, email, website communications, and social media for additional messages.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter and stay safe!
