Stephanie Zeiber, M.P.A. (B.S.N. ’12, M.P.A. ’15) was an established leader supporting advanced practice providers across Sentara Health when she decided she could do more. Read Stephanie's story at odu.edu/pulse.

Already established in healthcare leadership, Stephanie Zeiber chose to return to the classroom to deepen her impact on patient care, workforce development and healthcare operations. Now pursuing a Doctor of Medical Science, the physician assistant and Sentara advanced practice provider director is applying what she learns in real time to help strengthen healthcare systems and support the next generation of providers.

Yesterday at the 2026 Commencement of Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University, we had the extraordinary honor of welcoming members of the inaugural EVMS MD Class of 1976 back to campus.

As the very first students of a brand-new medical school, they helped build more than a program — they established a legacy of compassion, innovation, resilience, and service that continues to shape healthcare throughout Hampton Roads and beyond.

Fifty years later, their presence at commencement served as a powerful reminder to our newest graduates that every institution begins with pioneers willing to believe in something greater than themselves. The foundation they helped create continues to flourish through the generations of physicians, healthcare professionals, educators, and leaders who have followed in their footsteps.

We are deeply grateful to the Class of 1976 for returning to celebrate this milestone with us and for the enduring legacy they continue to inspire. Congratulations to the Class of 2026 as you carry that legacy forward.

🎓 Cheer on the Class of 2026 by tuning into the Commencement livestream!

The Ceremony for Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences Eastern Virginia Medical School (MD Program Only) will be today at 3:00 p.m. EST. Alumnus, Michael Joseph Bono, MD (MD ’83, Emergency Medicine Residency ’86), will be the speaker.

The Advanced Degree Ceremony (All colleges and schools to include the EVMS School of Health Professions) will be this evening at 6:00 p.m. EST. The speaker will be Bruce L. Rubin, Ph.D., associate professor and chair of the Strome College of Business’s Department of Finance.

Both ceremonies will be livestreamed at www.odu.edu. Join us from wherever you are as we honor their remarkable achievements and celebrate this significant milestone together.
