Join us October 7 at 5pm The Slover for a special LitFest screening of the Oscar-winning film Once (2006).
We read because we wonder about ourselves: who would I have been in that body, that country, that century, and what would I have done when the soldiers came, or the diagnosis, or the flood. Wonder is also the astonishment when a book answers.
This festival, the longest-running in the United States, has been making room for both since 1978, when it began as an Arts Reunion built on the premise that "every person is potentially an artist." Forty-nine years later the premise holds. Five days of readings and conversation, free and open, everyone welcome.
The theme is drawn from a line in "On Learning to Dissect Fetal Pigs," the poem by Renée Good (1988–2026) that won the 2020 Academy of American Poets Prize at Old Dominion University. We dedicate this festival to her memory.

Do you have a favorite movie in which the time gets a bit out of joint? History gets a bit wibbly wobbly? The past gets repeated? The past gets repeated? The past gets repeated?
Naro Video @ ODUlibraries is seeking speakers to time travel with us for the 26-27 Naro Minded series, PUNK TEMPORALITY: FUTURE PASTS AND SPECULATIVE HISTORIES. Introduce a film for us and share your academic expertise on the mathematics, physics, philosophy, ethics, et cetera (and we mean et cetera!) of temporal manipulations, disruption, displacements, or loops — [try saying that three times fast] — and we’ll share your movie pick with a community of cinephiles as part of our FREE Naro Minded series.
Don’t have a particular movie in mind? That’s ok! Share your topic or rough idea with our curator at [email protected]. They’ll help you choose a film and make sure your presentation is an excellent adventure. (Although bogus journeys can be fun, too!)
DMs are open!
