On Thursday, November 5 @ 6:15pm in conjunction with Barry Art Museum's Helios: The 6th Annual Public Arts Festival at Old Dominion University, Naro Video @ ODU Libraries invites you to join us for a special screening of Sunshine (2007) directed by Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, 28 Days Later, 127 Hours) and written by Alex Garland (Annihilation, Ex Machina, 28 Days Later).
It is the year 2057. The sun is dying and mankind faces extinction. Earth's last hope rests with a courageous crew of eight men and women on a mission to ignite the fading star. Deep into their voyage, out of radio contact with Earth, their mission begins to unravel and they find themselves fighting not only for their lives, but for the future of us all.
Prior to the feature film, in conjunction with the Michael and Kimthanh Lê Planetarium, we’ll celebrate the upcoming milestone of the Voyager 1 probe as it approaches 1 light day (25.9 billion kilometers) away from Earth—with a filmic look back at the inception of the Voyager mission. Per the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, “the Voyager 1 spacecraft, traveling for nearly 50 years, will soon cross a mile marker reached by no other human-made object — one light-day away from Earth. Voyager 1 will reach this milestone on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2026, at 2:16:07 a.m. PST.”
