Mmmmm….delicious boba tea! But wait! It’s SLIME?! We spun up this creative concoction for Food Truck Camp this summer, and Saturday you can make it in Open Studio! Adventures in Color: Watercolor begins next Tuesday! Just for teens (6th-12th grade), we will learn color theory and how to skillfully manipulate the watercolor medium. This all inclusive class is from 6:00 - 7:00 and runs for five weeks. Learn more and register at https://otlartstudio.square.site/

Our signature Artist of the Week classes begin THIS WEEK and there is still room in both the Wednesday and Thursday classes. This year we’ve changed the age range to focus more on the older elementary artists with curriculum tailored to their abilities and interests. Printmaking with Hokusai, Mr Doodle, Modigliani self portraits and some surrealist fun are all on the agenda for the first session. Let’s talk about teens. If you’ve been looking for after-school classes for your 6th-12th grader, you know they are few and far between. There are a lot of sports activities, but not many art opportunities. That’s why we offer three different classes for your preteen/teen: Independent Studio, Beginning Drawing and Adventures in Color. The middle and teen years are a time of tremendous growth, but they also come with struggles. Who am I now? Am I good enough? How do I manage all these stresses of growing up? Art education can help with those struggles, especially in the self-confidence and self-care areas. We like to save the best, most fun camp for last. It’s often a new one, with all new projects. It gives us a creative push to end the summer strong. This year it was Food Truck Camp. We went in with so many projects and then the campers had even more ideas. Free treats for visiting puppies? ✔️Sushi? ✔️Boba tea? 🤔It was a dynamic and fluid camp and I’m so proud of our staff who rose to the occasion. (Yes, boba tea. Here’s how. And let’s make it slime!) We emphasized marketing so look for some really tight branding from Taco Heaven, The Rainbow Cafe on Wheels and Tim’s Cool Foods, where patrons receive a pair of shades with every purchase.

Our Fiber Arts Campers weree so engrossed in weaving, crocheting and sewing we had to drop our tie dying project from the curriculum! Never fear. It’s this Saturday’s Open Studio featured project! DreamHouse Design Camp: It was our 6th year and our third dollhouse design. This style dollhouse allowed us to more easily transport our houses for play dates, and included a professional portfolio for our plans. Fancy! We also added a play mat yard for our houses. Check the pics for a Christmas room, playground, swing, yard with pool and mower, and Ms Katie’s clever way to be sure everybody had the right piece as we were assembling our houses.

Studio time is $12 an hour when you register, to make whatever you want, however you want with whatever materials you want! Add-ons like those above, canvases, wooden or ceramic items are available for $1-$9 extra. Be sure to register ahead. You may walk in for $13 an hour but we cannot guarantee we will have space or materials for the featured add-ons if you don't register. Come make something FUN!

Hey grown-ups! Time to get your craft on! Come create in community! Choose the curated project of the night or bring whatever you’re working on at home and add to it using our tools and materials. Hey grown ups! Open Craft Night is Thursday and we’re going to be weaving mini tapestries! It’s so calming to get into that flow state while weaving, and we’ll have the looms warped and all our fancy fibers out for you to use. Come with nothing or bring your own fiber or other project to add to. There’s usually somebody drawing or painting, so you can literally make whatever you like with our supplies while chatting and connecting with the art-making community! It has been a busy, busy summer and we are WAY behind posting camp pics. Here’s a photo dump from Puppet Playhouse Camp. We made several kinds of puppets, went all in on one fancy one, then wrote and performed original plays with them. Not everybody loved the papier-mâché, but the results were so great, even a puppet watched the puppet show! check the next couple of posts for some darling videos.

Back from vacation and finally posting about the fabulous week we had in Zoo Dezigner Camp!! The zoo categories were diverse. We had a dragon zoo, two slime zoos, a baby animal zoo, a mostly reptile zoo, a very well interpreted traditional zoo with lots of signage, and The World Zoo which included microbes and fungi!
