Recently, Dr. White and Chris Old had the privilege of meeting and recruiting some of Virginia’s best talent at the 3rd Annual Spring Regional Job Fair. This event was presented by the Hampton Roads Veterans Employment Center and powered by the Workforce Council. SECEP, as a Virginia Values Veterans (V-3) employer, seeks the dedication and passion that is present in retired military personnel and their family members. We were able to speak to many individuals about the great work our staff do, every single day, to support our children and their families.

Our Chesapeake SECEP students and staff participated in the fourth annual Drive-Thru Food Drive benefitting the House of Blessing Food Bank. ASP/EBICS students and staff from Camelot Elementary and Indian River High schools designed signs that were posted in advance to advertise the event. ASP/EBICS students from Deep Creek, Great Bridge, Grassfield and Indian River High, Jolliff and Greenbrier Middle, and the Chesapeake Center participated in the event by guiding patrons through the drive-thru line, collecting items from the donors’ cars, inventorying the items as they were brought inside, and sorting the items into their respective bins. This event promotes community participation through project-based learning, aligning with post-secondary educational planning. Students were able to practice and generalize social, communication, and functional life skills as they participated in this community service project. We collected a total of 1,370 items to benefit our local community during this event – the most collected, so far!!! Our Chesapeake SECEP students and staff are ROCKSTARS! We want to say a huge, heartfelt THANK YOU to all who donated and supported this event! See you next year!!!

During the month of February, Portsmouth SECEP ASP/EBICS staff “Spread the love” by collecting hygiene items to make blessing bags to be distributed to those in need within the city. The students and staff at SH Clarke assembled the bags during the workshop. A total of 52 blessing bags were delivered to our CBI site, Oasis Social Ministry, for distribution throughout the city from their homeless essentials pantry.
