Parent-Child Night is always a favorite at GMS 💛
On this special evening, our Children’s House and Elementary students proudly welcomed their parents into the classroom to share their favorite lessons and show off their hard work. The joy, confidence, and sense of connection made the night truly unforgettable.

A huge thank you to our elementary and middle schoolers for working so hard on their handmade crafts, and to our families for the generous donations of baked goods, toys, and books. Our 2025 Thanksgiving Feast was filled with so much joy and gratitude! We started with a reading of our land acknowledgment, researched and written three years ago by our upper elementary children.
“We want to express our thanks for the land on which we live, learn and play. An important part of the land on which we each live is the history of that land and the history of who has cared for the land before us.
Ghent Montessori School acknowledges these Indigenous people who lived where our school stands. First, we acknowledge the Chesapian Tribe as these were our first Native Americans. We also acknowledge the Powhatan Indian Nation, especially the Chickahominy Tribe and Pamunkey tribe.
Our land is who we are. It’s a mixture of our past, present and our future.”
We enjoyed songs, poems, and delicious food dishes thoughtfully prepared by each class. Children of mixed ages got to enjoy a meal together, creating a true sense of community. We are deeply grateful for the kindness and generosity of our families. Thank you for your dedication to keeping our traditions alive. Wishing everyone a warm and joyful holiday season.

We’ve been busy at GMS!
This week our community came together for our annual Adult Social, an evening of laughter, conversation, and connection among parents and staff. We also went to the baseball game and worked in the garden.
We also joined people around the world in celebrating International Peace Day. At Ghent Montessori, peace isn’t just a once-a-year theme, it is at the heart of our work with children every day. From resolving conflicts respectfully, to practicing grace and courtesy, to caring for the environment, our students are learning to be peacemakers.
As Maria Montessori said, “Establishing lasting peace is the work of education; all politics can do is keep us out of war."
