Just back from the National Academies Panel that is evaluating the Marine Recreational Information Program. Not much chance to see New Orleans, but I did have some good fresh seafood. Who knew black drum could taste so good!

In 2006 CQFE obtained its own building on the campus of Old Dominion University.
The Center for Quantitative Fisheries Ecology (CQFE) was conceived by Dr. Cynthia Jones in the 1998 based on her work with the Virginia Marine Resource Commission evaluating fish populations in Chesapeake Bay. I'm chairing a National Academy panel to review new NMFS angler surveys. We met in Charleston, SC a beautiful city and ate in a restaurant called Fish.

We had a great time at the AFS meeting in Portland. I listened to some wonderful talks and caught up with old friends,
Mike Schmidtke passed his Candidacy exams with flying colors today. Now on to ABD status!

The 39th Larval Fish Conference was held in Vienna this past week. Lots of good talks and a great venue. I had a wonderful time catching up with old friends
Dr. Kristen Anstead has just accepted a position at the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission as a fishery scientist. Congratulations Dr. Anstead!

Kristen Anstead defended her PhD thesis and finished in 3 1/2 years with a published paper and more to come. Yeah Kristen. Way to go.
Kristen Anstead has published her first paper as senior author. "Coast-wide juvenile otolith signatures of the Atlantic Menhaden Brevoortia tyrannus, 2009-2011" by Anstead, Schaffler and Jones Transactions of the American Fisheries Society. Congratulations Kristen.
