The Norfolk Federation of Teachers strongly encourages a "YES" vote on the City of Norfolk's 1% Sales Tax Referendum this election season.

This citizen-approved referendum would increase the Norfolk sales tax by just 1 penny per dollar spent with all of the funds dedicated to school building construction and renovation in NPS. This could generate $40-50 million dollars a year just for NPS capital improvement!

With NPS facing over $900 million of building related needs in the next 20 years, this small increase creates a dedicated source of funding to provide NPS students and workers with buildings that are fit for learning and working.

The Norfolk Federation of Teachers is proud to endorse Ms. Jodi Slaughter for Ward 3 Norfolk School Board and Ms. Tiffany Buffaloe for Norfolk School Board - Ward 4 for re-election to the School Board of the City of Norfolk.
Through continued discussions and presence, both Ms. Slaughter and Ms. Moore-Buffaloe have proven their commitment to supporting NFT and giving Norfolk Public Schools employees a real voice and seat at the decision making table. Their responses to our endorsement questionnaire indicated willingness to work together towards Collective Bargaining rights for NPS employees, which will give NPS workers a real say in their work every day.

We look forward to supporting and working with both Ms. Slaughter and Ms. Moore-Buffaloe to improve NPS for its employees and, by extension, its students.

Early voting began today, Sept. 18th and ends Oct. 31st! Make sure you're registered: https://www.elections.virginia.gov/registration/
