Norfolk State University is ranked No. 8 in the HBCU Times top 25 HBCU rankings for 2026. NSU jumped eight spots from No.16 in the 2025 rankings to No.8 this year.
The HBCU Times rankings were developed through a comprehensive and deliberate evaluation conducted by an editorial board of 12 HBCU experts, representing faculty, staff and students from across the HBCU community.
In determining the rankings, the board assessed a range of key indicators, including academic reputation, alumni success, athletic performance, institutional legacy, student outcomes and national influence. These factors were evaluated using a structured qualitative framework designed to ensure a balanced and holistic representation of each institution’s overall impact, influence and trajectory.
