Fall is here, and we’re heading outside to celebrate!

Faculty are invited to join us for a Fall Hike at Hoffler Creek Wildlife Preserve in collaboration with the Outdoor Adventure Center.

Spend the morning exploring the trails, enjoying the changing season, and connecting with colleagues away from campus.

October 3 | 10 a.m.–12 p.m. | Hoffler Creek Wildlife Preserve: 4510 Twin Pines Road, Portsmouth, VA 23703

Whether you’re a regular hiker or simply looking for an excuse to spend a fall morning outdoors, all skill levels are welcome.

Need a reason to step away from your desk and get outside for a bit? Wednesday Walks are back!

Starting September 16, faculty and staff are invited to meet us in front of Dragas Hall every Wednesday at noon for a casual walk around campus.

Wednesdays | 12 p.m. | Meet in front of Dragas Hall

Wednesday Walks are an opportunity to take a midweek break, enjoy some fresh air, and connect with colleagues from across ODU while exploring campus together.

It’s still warm out, so comfortable clothing and water are encouraged. RSVP ahead of time or simply stop by and join us when you can!

Back by popular demand, this hands-on session will focus on practical self-defense techniques for everyday situations, emphasizing awareness, de-escalation, and preparedness.

September 16 | 5–6 p.m. | Newport News Room, Webb Center

The class is designed to be approachable for a range of physical abilities and experience levels. No prior self-defense experience is needed, and comfortable clothing is recommended to allow for ease of movement.

Come ready to move, learn, and leave with a little more confidence in your ability to respond when it matters.

How can we weave well-being into the ways we work, learn, connect, and grow at ODU? We're so glad you asked!

Faculty and staff are invited to join us for Well-Being, Woven In: Advancing a Health-Promoting University, co-sponsored by the Office of Faculty Recruitment and Well-Being and the Division of Student and Campus Life.

Two sessions are available:

September 8 | 12–1 p.m. | Zoom
September 9 | 12–1 p.m. | Student Recreation and Well-Being Center, Room 1400

This foundational workshop will introduce what it means to be a Health-Promoting University and explore how ODU is working to create conditions where people and communities can flourish.

Participants will consider systems thinking, upstream approaches to well-being, and the ways our everyday roles, decisions, and connections can contribute to a healthier and more connected university community.
