I’m pleased to announce the first-ever GMAC scholarship program for future graduate business school students! Starting September 3rd, GMAC will begin accepting applications for two scholarships, valued at $1000 and $2500. Scholarships will be awarded to current junior and senior undergraduates planning to pursue a graduate business degree.
To apply, students should go to gmac.com/scholarships and submit their resume and a 500-word essay answering the question: How can graduate business school transform and improve the world around you? We encourage students to pull from their own academic, professional, and/or volunteer background and share how that relates to their choices to pursue a graduate business degree.

The SEC has reached out to six Millennial organizations in Hampton Roads whose goal is to improve “culture and the arts, the environment and social justice” and have about 70 people RSVPed so far. If the music talent brain drain can be mitigated, Hampton Roads can keep and attract young people. This will be a relaxed atmosphere where one can network, share ideas, and begin to think about strengthening the live music scene.

Old Dominion University will remain open today, Friday, but classes will be cancelled on Saturday, Sept. 3, at all university locations. Classes will resume Tuesday.

The National Weather Service has issued a tropical storm warning for our area, due to the expected impact of Tropical Storm Hermine this weekend. Impacts from Hermine will likely be felt Saturday and all indications are the storm will produce rain, wind and localized flooding. The campus community is preparing for these conditions, and at this time, does not anticipate severe conditions on campus.

Due to anticipated coastal flooding, students, faculty and staff who plan to park their vehicles on campus this weekend are asked to relocate them to Garage B (on 43rd Street, adjacent to Perry Library), or C and D (the garages on either side of the Ted Constant Convocation Center), starting now. Vehicles may be parked in those lots until Tuesday at 7 a.m.

Residence halls and dining services will remain open and fully staffed. For a schedule of Dining Services, please visit: http://olddominion.campusdish.com

The Old Dominion vs. Hampton football game at Foreman Field at S.B. Ballard Stadium has been moved to Sunday, Sept. 4 at 3:30 p.m. Tailgating lots will open at 1:30 p.m.

The Student Recreation Center will open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. However, all formal programs and activities, including swimming pool use, are cancelled Saturday. Normal programming and hours will resume Sunday. Visit odu.edu/recwell for Labor Day hours of operation.

University Libraries will be operating regular hours through the weekend. Any changes to the status will be posted online at: https://www.odu.edu/library

Webb University Center will remain open for normal operating hours and events will run as scheduled. Televisions will be set-up throughout Webb for gaming and watching. Students are encouraged to participate in indoor activities including the following movies: "Tarzan” - Friday at 8 p.m. Dive in Movie at the Student Recreation Center; “Finding Nemo” - Saturday at 8 p.m., MGB. Monarch Transit, the campus shuttle, and SafeRide will be operating a normal schedule depending on the changing road conditions.

Students, faculty and staff who park in lots typically closed for football games (the ones with posted signs for “closing at 5 a.m. on Saturday”), will need to remove their vehicles from those lots by 5 a.m. Sunday.

The campus community is encouraged to monitor local television stations WTKR-TV 3, WAVY-TV 10, and WVEC-TV 13 for up-to-the-minute weather information. Road conditions are changing constantly, and employees and students are urged to use caution when traveling. Please check www.odu.edu for delays and closings.

Any campus emergencies should be reported to University Police by calling 757-683-4000. To sign-up for ODU Alerts, visit www.odu.edu/alerts.
