Ahoy, mateys! 🏴‍☠️✨

Throwback to 2017 when Teacher Kent first kicked off our annual Talk Like a Pirate Day tradition, and we've loved celebrating it ever since! Since the day is coming up on September 19th, we had to celebrate a little early this year.

Our little buccaneers had an absolute blast digging into kinetic sand and hunting down hidden treasures. Days like this are so much more than just a fun excuse to wear eye patches and talk in pirate slang. When kids get to dress up together for a shared theme, it completely breaks down social barriers. It instantly makes everyone part of the same crew, which is a huge help for shy kids wanting to step out of their shells and make new friends.

Plus, our treasure hunts in the kinetic sand do double duty! As little hands dig, scoop, mold, and sift to find their coins, they're actually building and strengthening those small hand and finger muscles. It's such a fun, hands on way to develop the exact dexterity and strength they need down the road for writing. ✍️⚓️

We always love finding creative ways to weave learning, imagination, and friendship together!

Thanks to everyone who bid on Saturday! We raised $1,804 for our preschool!

Huge thank you to our parents who spent time baking amazing treats (we had nearly 100% parent participation!) and to the awesome authors who donated signed books.

Every single bid helps us keep our classroom stocked with the everyday stuff our kiddos need, like the paint, paper, and new aprons you see in this photo! 🖌️✨

There is a special kind of wonder in opening a book and finding a real author’s signature inside!

We are so grateful to Alaskan authors like Brooke Hartman for donating signed copies of beloved titles like The Littles Airplane and All Aboard the Alaska Train!

Holding a signed book demystifies storytelling for little ones. It shows our preschoolers that the books they love are created by real people, inspiring them to draw, dictate, and share their own big ideas.

📚✨ COMMUNITY BOOK DRIVE & SWAP NIGHT! ✨📚

Along with our Dessert & Literacy Auction tonight, we are launching a special initiative to keep great stories circulating across our community!

We are collecting donations of gently used children’s books tonight to help establish a community book swap right here in town.

How it works:

The concept is simple and practiced in communities all around the world... Take a Book, Leave a Book! It gives home libraries a fresh rotation without spending a dime, keeps well-loved books out of landfills, and ensures every child has easy access to wonderful stories.

📍 Book Drive & Swap Details:

•When: Tonight during auction pick-up. ( starting at 7:00 PM )
•Where: 911 E 5th Ave
•Who: EVERYONE is welcome! You do not need to be enrolled in Nome Preschool to participate, bring books, or take books home.

All we ask is that everyone helps us keep the swap station tidy, gentle with the materials, and filled with joy!

If you have children’s books sitting on your shelves that your kids have outgrown, bring them by tonight! Together, we can build an accessible, rotating library for all families in town and spark a lifelong love of reading across Nome.
