Northwest Campus provides excellent opportunities for academic, vocational, and community education

Northwest Community College was created by an act of the state legislature in 1976, when the college first began offering classes. In 1987, the college became a branch of the University of Alaska Fairbanks and was renamed UAF Northwest Campus. Though now affiliated with a preeminent research institution, Northwest Campus maintains its community college mission: to provide excellent opportunities for academic, vocational and community education to the people of the Bering Strait region.

Calling all Bering Strait Region youth ages 13–17 and their guardians! Join the University of Alaska Fairbanks Northwest Campus for a hands-on Fish Skin Tanning course where you’ll learn how to turn fish skins into beautiful, fully cured leather using traditional and natural tanning methods.

Graphite was first mined at Graphite Creek in the early 1900’s. Today there is interest in graphite as a component of lithium-ion batteries. What is graphite and why is it north of Nome?
