Good afternoon, Bracker Community!

Hoping all finds you well. I have just been contacted by The Nogales Rotary Club President that on Saturday November 13, 2021, the Rotary Clubs from Nogales, Rio Rico, Tubac and Green Valley, will be giving away coats.

These coats will be available from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon at the Nogales High School. They are new or slightly used and will vary in size for men, women and children. This sounds like a wonderful opportunity for those in our community that might be in need.

Stay well,

Ms. Vigilant

Dear Parents,

NUSD is currently working with both Mariposa and our SCC Health Department to begin the Pfizer vaccination of younger children. These opportunities are available for parents who would like to have their child(ren) ages 5-11 vaccinated.

For documents and permission slip forms from the SCC Health Department, for mobile vaccination, on Nov 8-10, please contact the front office. We have the actual consent forms in English and Spanish provided by Ambulnz, the provider that will be conducting the vaccinations.

If you use the QR code / link (https://rrtesting.app/SCCSchools) you will be able to access records of the vaccination on the provider’s website.

We also can provide you with a hard copy if you are unable to access the information online. The provider will also have hard copies when you arrive.

The schedule and how long the vaccination van will be at any one school will depend on how many students have been signed up for vaccination that week. Pre-registration via the QR code and link will greatly help in making sure that we have enough allocations of resources for each child.

Our Nurse, Mrs. Larios, will be onsite during the administration of the shot as that can help calm our students.

Parents, if you are interested in your student receiving this shot, please, fill out the forms attached to this email and turn it in asap.

Also, if you would prefer to have their child vaccinated at the Recreation Center (located at 1500 N. Hohokam Drive), the dates are as follows: Children ages 5 through 11, on Monday, Nov. 8th and Wednesday, Nov. 10th from noon to 6 pm at the Recreation Center. No adult vaccinations will be available at those times.

Please let me know if you have any questions and thank you in advance for your support.

Dear Bracker Community!
Today, we kicked off our Red Ribbon Week! We had guest speakers from Border Patrol and they answered questions and gave a fantastic talk about the importance of saying, "No" drugs and maintaining a drug-free, healthy lifestyle. We kicked off this week by wearing red. Thank you, Bracker community, for your support in this event.
Bracker would like to send a huge thank you to Mr. Robert Nicolaus for assisting us in this event.

Ms. Vigilant, Principal

Dear Bracker Community,

The U.S. News and World Report just published their first-ever rankings of public elementary and middle schools. For each state, schools were assessed on their pupils’ proficiencies in mathematics and reading, as measured by state assessment tests. Half of the ranking formula was the results themselves; the other half was the results in the context of socioeconomic demographics. In other words, the top-ranked schools are high-achieving ones that succeeded in educating all of their students. Data is based on the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 school years.

The great news is that RM Bracker was chosen as one of the five schools identified as earning a high ranking! We will display a U.S. News Best Elementary and Best Middle Schools award badge which recognizes educational excellence. The schools which met this criterion and are in the top 30% for their category are:

*Franciso Vasquez de Coronado Elementary, ranking #89 in Arizona elementary schools
*Robert M. Bracker Elementary School, ranking #159 Arizona elementary schools
*Mary L Welty Elementary School, #238 Arizona elementary schools
*Lincoln Elementary School, #310 Arizona elementary schools
*Desert Shadows Middle School, #159 Arizona middle schools

What a wonderful honor to have this recognition and be identified as highly ranked this first year that this organization has begun to rate K-8 schools!

You can access this information about each of our schools at
https://www.usnews.com/education/k12/elementary-schools/arizona/nogales-unified-district-109571?city-zip=85621 for the elementary schools.

We are very proud and honored and will continue to do our very best everyday for our parents, students and community!

1. In the beginning of the year parents sign the Parent-Teacher Compact and receive a copy of the Parent, Family and Community Involvement Policy.
2. All Students and Parents receive a copy of the Behavior Management Handbook, which outlines the student discipline matrix. These policies are reviewed at the parent meetings at the start of the school year.
3. At the start of this school year we have a virtual “Open House”; the administration and teachers extend an invitation to meet with all parents. It is at this time that the Title 1 Program is thoroughly explained, including components such as the School Improvement Plan, Needs Assessment and evaluation. Additionally, there is a review of the Behavior Management Handbook and other behavioral expectations. Opportunities for tutoring, extra student help, parent involvement, and similar topics are covered. This is the Title 1 annual meeting. Sign-In sheets are provided in the Title 1 Binder.
4. We have “Parent Power Meetings” for each grade level once per semester, these meetings are conducted in the mornings to provide an opportunity for the parent to sit next to their child and get some tips on how to help them succeed in a variety of academic areas.
5. We have virtual “Cafecito”.
6. All meetings are conducted in English and Spanish to provide equal access to all parents.
7. There are parent-teacher conferences held throughout the year. These conferences are held to allow parents time to work with their children to improve performance, if needed, before the end of each quarter.
8. R.M. Bracker maintains a telephone messenger system which calls home if a student is absent or to remind parents of meetings and for any time communication with parents is needed.
9. Parents are sent bi-monthly information letters that include calendars and other communications.
10. Parents are encouraged to contact teachers when they have a concern. All parents have access to a student’s grades and attendance through Power School Imagine Learning. They are invited to come to the school for assistance in using these programs if they do not know how to access the programs.
11. Information on goals, achievement, AzMerit scores and other important data is posted in the school’s website and page. They are also reviewed with parents during quarterly parent meetings.

13. Our website provides updates for the parents and community.
14. It is a parent’s right to participate in Title I planning/discussions at the school level. Quarterly parent meetings are one appropriate venue for such participation.

Dear Bracker Community!

I hope this newsletter finds you and your family well and in good spirits.

As we approach our last week of testing please accept my most gracious and humble thanks to YOU parents for bringing in your students for us to test them. We have had a remarkable turn out and your support is so greatly appreciated. BRACKER ELEMENTARY HAS THE BEST PARENTAL SUPPORT IN NUSD! THANK YOU!

We are proud to announce that RM Bracker Elementary will be offering Summer school for selected students from May 24th through June 17th. In an effort to assist students in reducing the “loss of learning”, we have created a fun, yet educational Summer School program that consists of math, reading, language, and writing activities. This 17 days summer program is for students in grades K-5th. The hours are from 8:00am-1:30pm. The activities are designed to be a review of material from the past school year and have been pulled from our current reading and math series so they should be familiar to you and your child. This should also limit the time teachers have to spend “reviewing and reteaching” skills from the past year. Summer school space is limited and will be in person not on a computer (subject to change due to COVID-19 status). We are giving first preference of attendance to teacher recommendation, then, second preference to parent request. The reason for this is that we want to make sure that we target the students that could mostly benefit from our program. If you would like to stop by and review the summer school curricula, please feel free to stop by Bracker Elementary any time after April 22nd from 9:00am-2pm. Please contact Ms. Vigilant for any questions.
Announcements:
1. Parents, if by now you have not yet completed the Returning Student Registration Form. You will start to receive calls from us here at the school with reminders! During these calls, we can also assist you with completing the form, if needed. This form is extremely important as it helps us prepare staffing and other pertinent information for the next school year. If you need assistance or should have any questions, please give Martha R. Villa a call at 520.377.2886 or send her an email at [email protected].
2. Bracker is also excited to announce that we WILL host a transition procession ceremony for students currently in grade Kindergarten and Fifth!
In order to honor our students and follow CDC safety procedural guidelines, our transition procession ceremony will take place behind the school. Families will remain in their cars, but take in the wonderful “sights,” music, and gifts that our students and teachers have prepared. Part of the procession, there will be a “stop” where students will receive their diplomas and take pictures with their teachers. This should be a fun event for all! We encourage parents and families to decorate their vehicles to add to the festivities. One vehicle per student, please.
3. Our end of the year awards assembly will also look different this year. It will be via zoom. Out motto for this year is, “Bracker Dolphins Excelling Against the Current.” We felt this was appropriate due to the challenges that our community had to overcome this year. In addition to our, Dolphins of The Month, recognition, which is based on Character Counts criteria and not academics, we wanted to highlight those students that did strive to maintain academic success this year. Therefore, we created a special award program for those students that achieved academic honors in three categories:
a. Gold Award:
i. Students who achieved the highest of honors throughout the year, maintained “A” all four quarters and were present during the majority of the instructional time (including Specials).
b. Silver Award:
i. Students who maintained A/B grades all year, had a great attitude and present during most of the instructional time (including Specials).
c. Bronze Award:
i. Students who maintained A/B/(possibly C) all year, had a great attitude, were present during most of the instructional time (including Specials), great effort, maybe started off slow but overcame challenges to end strong, persevered—never gave up attitude.
4. Parents, please watch your speed as you are entering Camino Diez Mandamientos road. Please remind yourself that this is school zone and there are children (and police) present.
5. We will be sending out a Title One survey via email. Please, complete it at your earliest convenience. Your answers are anonymous, but helpful in assisting Bracker in becoming and remaining the best we can be.
6. At the end of the year, we will be collecting computers, computers bags, chargers and MiFi’s. We will be collecting these items in whatever conditions they are in. Please be prepared to drop off these items to the school the week of May 24th - May 28th from 8:00am-3:00pm. This is also an opportune time to pick up your child’s final report card.

Important Dates:
April 19th- 26th: AzM2 Testing 5th Grade
May 3rd -19th: Galileo and DIBELS Testing (various grades per week)
May 18: Zoom Awards Assembly:
9:00am: Grades K-2 (Zoom link will be attached to invite at later date)
12:30pm: Grades 3-5th (Zoom link will be attached to invite at later date)
May 19th: Fifth Grade Transition 12:30pm - 1:30pm
May 20th: Kinder Transition 9:00am - 10:00am
May 21st: Last day of school

a. Premio de Oro:
b. Premio de Plata:
c. Premio de Bronce:
