Training hard, but having a hard time keeping up the intensity? You might want to think more about what your recovery looks like versus adjusting your workouts
If pain and soreness is keeping you from functioning outside your workout and your performance is continuing to tank, you're not recovering between workouts.
Recovery doesn't mean rest and goes much deeper than that if you want to perform like an athlete. Recovery is multi-faceted and is made up of multiple things like nutrition, sleep, hydration, movement, and more. These all play a key role in how the body recovers after an intense workout.
If your nutrition, sleep, hydration, and stress are all over the place, you aren't going to be able to maintain a high training volume.
Sometimes we're in a season of life that makes some of these hard, that's when we have to make compromises that allow us to train hard, but recover harder.
Things you can do to balance training hard & recovering harder:
- Alternate demanding sessions with lighter training days
- Increase weight or volume gradually instead of changing everything at once
- Keep some reps in reserve rather than training every set to failure
- Tack soreness, energy, sleep, and performance patterns
And if you're struggling with all of this and want some additional help & guidance, head to our link in bio to schedule an initial evaluation and we'll help you build a plan that works for you
