Second-semester grades don’t improve by rereading the same 10 pages over and over and calling it studying. You’ve already seen how that worked first semester. If you want different results, you need a different move. Instead of passively scanning notes, spend 10 minutes explaining the material out loud like you’re teaching it to a classmate who missed lecture. When you try to explain a concept and get stuck, that’s not failure—that’s feedback. It shows you exactly what you don’t understand yet. Explaining forces your brain to organize ideas, connect concepts, and test your understanding in real time. You stop guessing whether you know the material and start proving it. This habit also builds confidence, because by the time you sit down to review again, you already know where to focus. College rewards students who can explain, apply, and transfer knowledge—not those who just recognize it on the page. Start explaining it out loud, and let your studying finally work.
