The Adirondack Research Library is part of the Kelly Adirondack Center of Union College. The Adirondack Research Library was founded in 1979 by Paul Schaefer and a group of local ardent conservationists. In 2004 the Association for the Protection of the Adirondacks built a home for the books, collections, maps, documents, and periodicals the library had collected throughout the years in their new

Center for the Forest Preserve. The site includes the home of Paul Schaefer and a 4,000 sq.ft. When they could no longer afford to keep the building in 2011, Union College purchased the facility. The materials of the Adirondack Research Library are currently on permanent loan to Union College from Protect the Adirondacks!.

We're currently exhibiting Adirondack Portraits: The Photography of Osmond D. Putnam. The photographs in the collection were taken between 1885 and 1887 in and around Johnsburg, New York. They give us a rare glimpse into small town life in the Adirondacks during this time. We're very grateful to know many of the names of the people and locations Putnam photographed. Some of the images in the exhibit are on the Kelly Adirondack Center site but we encourage you to stop in and see the prints in person. The Kelly Adirondack Center is open Monday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with some closures for holidays. Please see our site for details.
