What a vibrant, fun-filled summer! As camp comes to a close, we are looking back on all the incredible learning experiences Stephanie and Mary created for our community:

Our Youngest Learners: Explored art inspired by famous creators, investigated real-world construction vehicles and tools, and brought beloved stories by Eric Carle and Beatrix Potter to life through imaginative play.

Children's House: Traveled from an African safari to a prehistoric Mesozoic adventure, dove into hands-on science experiments, and took a final journey to the Land Down Under!

While we will miss these sunny camp days, our hearts are full as we prepare for our big move to our brand new, beautiful home for the upcoming school year. Thank you to everyone who made this summer so special—we can’t wait to see what’s in store for our community in our new space! 🏡✨

“What the hand does, the mind remembers.”

The sandpaper letter says: this is what it feels like. The sand tray says: now make it yours.

Sandpaper letters give the fingers a memory. The exact shape, the exact feel, hardwired through touch. The sand tray lets them repeat it, refine it, own it. Together, they do something a worksheet, a flashcard, or a phonics app (gasp!) simply cannot:

They make language physical.

This is the beauty of the Montessori language sequence. The hand teaches the brain. The body leads the way. And when adult learners experience it firsthand, they finally understand why these materials have lasted over a century.

We are very excited to see the incredible progress on our new home. The siding is now in place, and the rooms have been painted. Check out the latest photos of our new building. The Children's House students wrapped up their study of dinosaurs with a variety of fun activities, including fossil excavation and "hatching" dinosaur eggs. Our youngest students completed their exploration of all things construction. They all had a great time participating in the educational activities as well as water play.

It's summertime at Our World Montessori! During summer camp, the children will explore weekly themes through art and nature activities, movement, science, food, and culture. Each day will include activities that promote independence and exploration of a variety of engaging topics in a peaceful environment, with a focus on outdoor fun and water play.

Summer camp is all about learning while having fun! We foster a love of learning and discovery using Montessori principles that include a deep respect for each child as an individual.

Our older students spent the week exploring the African Savanna while our younger students got messy while learning about famous artists and their work.

It has been a busy few weeks as we wrapped up the school year with our Moving Up ceremony for the students graduating and going on to first grade in the fall, Field Day, and our annual family picnic.

The end of each school year is always bittersweet for us as we reflect on the joy the children have brought us, but also a bit of sadness that it is now time to part from many of the children for the summer. It means the world to us that families have trusted us to nurture and educate their children, who we know are their most precious gifts. We have truly enjoyed guiding the children's growth and development and seeing them make strides with practical life skills and towards independence during the year, in addition to their academic progress. We are particularly delighted to see the kindergarten children build on the foundation of their years in the Children's House and blossom into joyful and confident classroom leaders!

We are deep-cleaning the classrooms and materials, and we look forward to moving to our new building in the fall. Take a look at the most recent photos of the progress on our new space! It is much easier to envision the layout of our new home now that it has been framed.

It has been a pleasure and a privilege getting to know the children and their families, and we have delighted in the smiles and laughter the children have brought into our classrooms. For the families of children who are not returning for summer camp or the new school year in September, we say "See you later" instead of "Goodbye" in the hope that our paths will cross again. Thank you for a wonderful year!

Their commitment to supporting the whole child in all areas of development—cognitive, emotional, social, physical—is something we celebrate. As a proud NYS Montessori Alliance member and American Montessori Society verified school, Our World Montessori already has a strong system framework that aligns with QUALITYstarsNY standards. The ability to work one-on-one with our amazing Quality Improvement Specialist, Lisa S., who supports our shared goal of continuous quality improvement, has been an immense help to our program, and we encourage other Montessori programs in New York to participate in QUALITYstarsNY to receive these benefits and more.

It is official! Our purpose-built new Montessori home is underway, and construction is moving forward smoothly.

Last week, we shared our formal press release, and today, progress continues on-site. In Montessori, we understand that a true prepared environment must be meticulously designed to support the child’s independence, wonder, and natural development. Every detail of this new space is being constructed with that exact purpose in mind.

A member of our toddler community recently visited the site to inspect the progress, bringing a beautiful sense of joyful, purposeful observation to the project. We are ready for this journey and deeply grateful for our community's shared commitment to the future of our school. A heartfelt thank you to Brooke Spraragen and her team at Spraragen Partners for their dedication, vision, and professional stewardship in preserving Our World Montessori’s legacy.
