✨ Try “WHEN, THEN” instead of “FIRST, THEN”! ✨

Sometimes the way we phrase a direction can make a BIG difference, especially for little ones ages 1–6. 🧡

“First, then” can sometimes feel like a demand or negotiation: “First clean up, then we can play.” Instead, try “When, then”: “When the toys are in the bin, then we can play!” ➡️

Using “when, then” helps children understand clear expectations, cause and effect, and what comes next. It also gives them a predictable sequence while keeping the focus on what they CAN do.

🏠 Try it during everyday routines:
🧼 “When your hands are washed, then we can eat.”
👟 “When your shoes are on, then we can go outside.”
🧸 “When the toys are cleaned up, then we can read a book.”
🛁 “When bath time is finished, then we can put on pajamas.”

For younger children, keep your language short, simple, and consistent. You can also pair your words with gestures or visual cues to help them understand.

Remember: We’re not looking for perfection—we’re giving our kiddos the tools to understand expectations and become more independent. 🌱🧡

Save this for your next tricky transition and share it with a parent who could use it! ✨

You are your child’s first and most important advocate. 🧡

If something doesn’t feel quite right, trust your instincts. Early support isn’t about putting a label on your child—it’s about giving them every opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.

The earlier children receive the support they need, the stronger the foundation they build for communication, confidence, independence, and lifelong success. Every child develops at their own pace, but no family should feel like they have to “wait and see” when resources and support are available.

Remember:
🌱 Early intervention can make a lasting difference.
💛 Seeking support is a sign of strength, not failure.
🫶🏽 You know your child better than anyone else.

Don’t let myths or fear delay the help your child deserves. Your voice matters, your concerns are valid, and your advocacy can change your child’s future.

✨ Together, we grow. Together, we thrive 🧡

☀️ Our Annual Summer Picnic was a beautiful reminder of what Grow With Me is all about—community, connection, and growth. 💛

From laughter and games to meaningful conversations and time spent together, this day was a celebration of the incredible children, families, and team members who make our mission possible every day.

We are grateful for a team that shows up with compassion, dedication, and heart, and for the families who trust us to be part of their child’s developmental journey. Watching our community come together reminds us that when we support one another, we all grow stronger.

Here’s to another year of learning, growing, and making a difference—together. 🌳✨

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this year’s Summer Picnic so special!🧡✨

💛 Big feelings are a normal part of growing—and every feeling is okay. What matters is helping children learn what they’re feeling and how to respond in a healthy way. ✨

For children ages 0–6, emotional regulation doesn’t happen automatically—it develops through supportive relationships, co-regulation, and practice. Using a feelings thermometer or color zones helps children identify how their body and emotions feel before they become overwhelmed.

💚 Green: Calm, happy, and ready to learn.
💛 Yellow: Silly, excited, or energetic—it’s time to slow our bodies down.
❤️ Red: Angry, frustrated, or overwhelmed—we need support to regain control.
💙 Blue: Sad, tired, or low energy—we may need comfort, rest, or connection.

Once children recognize how they’re feeling, they can begin using coping strategies that match their needs. Simple tools like taking deep breaths, stretching, squeezing a sensory toy, drawing, listening to music, talking to a trusted adult, pushing against a wall for calming input, counting, or taking a quiet break teach children that emotions are manageable.

Remember, the goal isn’t to stop children from having big emotions—it’s to help them understand them, express them safely, and return to a calm, regulated state where they can learn, play, and connect with others.

✨ Emotional regulation is a skill, and like any skill, it grows with patience, consistency, and lots of practice.

Use this template to support your child’s emotional regulation by practicing these strategies before big emotions happen. 💛

It’s the practice outside of challenging moments that helps children remember and use these coping skills when they need them most. The more they practice while they’re calm, the more likely they’ll be able to regulate their emotions, overcome challenges, and return to a calm, ready-to-learn state. 💭

Play is practice for real life. 🧡

The best toys don’t just keep children entertained—they help them build the skills they’ll use every day. From twisting bottle caps and pouring drinks to buttoning clothes and cleaning up, functional play gives children opportunities to practice independence in a fun, low-pressure way.

When children engage with toys that mimic real-life tasks, they’re strengthening:
✨ Fine motor skills
✨ Hand strength and coordination
✨ Problem-solving
✨ Sequencing and following directions
✨ Confidence and independence

Remember, everyday skills don’t happen overnight. They develop through repetition, play, and opportunities to practice. By choosing toys with a purpose, you’re helping your child build the foundation for success both at home and in the classroom.

💡 Save this post for toy ideas that support meaningful development, and remember—play isn’t “just playing.” It’s how children learn the skills they’ll carry with them for life.
