A nonprofit empowering people with disabilities, The Light House offers a continuum of services from special education to independent living, fostering social, emotional, and cognitive development for lifelong independence. Divided into three “campuses”, The Light House has a broad range of programming including two state-approved private schools, residential and transitional services, and state c

ontracted adult services. The Learning Campus is a state-approved private school specializing in behavioral and developmental services; The Learning Campus provides intensive, student-centered learning experiences for students ages 5 to 22. The Life Campus provides community-based programming tailored to meet the unique needs of individuals with autism. The core program, The Transition Academy, is both a day and residential program where students build upon and further develop the skills necessary for independence, focusing specifically on Employment, Education, Social/Personal, Community and Independent Living. Residential programming and life coaching options are available for those 22+ as well. The Community Campus offers individualized and participant-driven adult day services including Day Service Options and Pre-Vocational Training. Programs are designed to lead to the acquisition of skills needed to prepare an individual for work and/or community involvement. Other Programming includes employment services, respite supports, summer camp, and social/recreational night groups.

Some people bring light wherever they go—and Marcie Meyer-Hall has been doing just that at The Light House since 2005! 💙

As a Life Coach, Marcie knows that making a difference doesn’t always require one big moment. It happens through patience, encouragement, consistency, and the countless small things done with great care each day.

Her favorite quote captures it perfectly: “If I cannot do great things, I can do small things in a great way.”

Thank you, Marcie, for more than two decades of showing us what it means to Be the Light. 🌟

Help us celebrate Marcie by leaving her a 💙 in the comments!

Be the Light Wall Series: Judi Hauck

As we continue our Be the Light Wall series, we are honored to recognize Judi Hauck, a founding member of The Light House Board of Directors whose story is deeply connected to the earliest days of our organization.

Judi’s daughter, Meggie, was one of the young people who helped shape what The Light House would become.

In Judi’s words, “Meggie taught me more than I ever taught her. She pushed me to go beyond my dreams. She was the wind beneath my wings.”

That love, influence, and belief in what was possible are still woven into The Light House today. Meggie’s legacy also lives on through the Meggie Dawn Memorial Scholarship, created in her name and continuing to support students pursuing futures centered on helping others.

For more than three decades, Judi has continued to serve, guide, and believe in The Light House and the people we support.

Thank you, Judi, for carrying Meggie’s light forward and for being such an important part of The Light House story.

We recently installed a memorial bench at our Learning Campus in memory of Ariel, a longtime student who passed away in January 2024.

Ariel was known for her big personality, her love of music and dancing, her dolls, getting her hair done, spending time with friends, and proudly wearing her crown. She brought a lot of joy and personality to our campus and is still remembered by the staff and students who knew her.

We are very grateful to Tri-county memorials for helping make this memorial possible. Special thanks to Yolanda Diaz, Phil, and Michelle Morris for the care, craftsmanship, and generosity they brought to the project.

Our New London campus beat the heat today with a trip to the Connecticut Science Center! 🦈🔬

Everyone had a great time exploring the hands-on exhibits, with the current SHARKS exhibit being a definite favorite. From the massive megalodon to some of the smallest sharks in the ocean, there was plenty to see, learn, and talk about.

A fun day of exploring, learning, and staying cool! 🌊🧪
