Located in Newtown, CT, HVWS Pre-K through 8th Waldorf School. Every student is educated to be an artist and musician as well as a scholar.

The majority of our graduates thrive in the finest private and public high schools. Best of all, this is accomplished without the stress of standardized testing, the pressure of grades, or the burden of huge amounts of homework. It is accomplished by teaching to the head, heart and hands of every student in a safe, serene environment that inspires learning and profoundly respects and values childhood.

There’s a groundedness that begins to take root in 3rd Grade.

You can see it in the way they settle into their work—steady, focused, fully present. Each child finding their rhythm, learning to carry a task from beginning to end with care and responsibility.

These are the moments where confidence quietly grows.

The finished piece will be shared at the Spring Benefit Live Auction on May 2. We hope you’ll join us to experience it in person and celebrate the work of these students.

And if you can’t be there, you can still take part through the online auction from home.

This is the village, holding them as they grow.

There’s something powerful about working together toward a shared goal.

In 4th Grade, you can see collaboration in action—hands reaching in, ideas overlapping, patience growing as each piece finds its place. It’s a process that asks them to listen, adjust, and stay with the work as a group.

What’s being created here is more than the final piece. It’s the experience of building something together.

You’ll be able to see it at the Spring Benefit Live Auction on May 2. We hope you’ll join us to experience it in person and celebrate the work of these students.

And if you can’t be there, you can still take part through the online auction from home.

This is the village, woven together.

There’s a deepening that happens around this age.

In 6th Grade, you begin to see focus take on a different quality—more independent, more deliberate. Hands move with intention, ideas take shape with care, and each student brings their own quiet determination to the work.

It’s thoughtful. It’s steady. And it’s entirely their own.

The final piece will be shared at the Spring Benefit Live Auction on May 2. We hope you’ll join us to experience it in person and celebrate what these students have created.

And if you can’t be there, you can still take part through the online auction from home.

This is the village, growing alongside them.

Small hands learning new skills, eyes focused, moments of discovery happening right at the table. What begins as something simple quickly becomes something meaningful, shaped by curiosity, effort, and a growing sense of confidence.

There’s a quiet focus that lives in this kind of work.

In 2nd Grade, hands are busy weaving, tying, and shaping—learning through doing, through patience, through rhythm. It’s not just about the finished piece, but about the process: staying with something, working through challenges, and creating with intention.

You can already feel the care woven into every strand.

There’s a kind of quiet wonder in these early years.

In the Dandelion Class, the work begins simply—color meeting water, brush meeting paper—and something beautiful starts to unfold. No rush, no pressure. Just presence, care, and the joy of creating.

These moments may seem small, but they are the roots of something much deeper: confidence, imagination, and a lifelong relationship with learning.

You’ll be able to see the finished piece at the Spring Benefit Live Auction on May 2. We hope you’ll join us to experience it in person.

And if you can’t be there, you can still take part through the online auction from home.

It takes a village to nurture something like this.

There’s something special about watching a project come to life piece by piece.

Our 5th Grade class has been working with care and intention, building something both precise and expressive for the Spring Benefit. You can see the collaboration in every line, every color choice, every moment gathered around the table.

These are the kinds of experiences that stay with them—where math, art, and teamwork quietly weave together into something meaningful.

There’s something quietly beautiful about watching these little hands at work.

Our Sunflower Class has been pouring care, color, and imagination into their class project for the Spring Benefit, and this is just a small glimpse of what’s unfolding. Each brushstroke, each detail, carries the spirit of childhood and the warmth of community.

The final pieces will be shared at the Live Auction on May 2, where we gather not just to celebrate these creations, but to support the village that holds our children every day.

We would love to have you there. And if you can’t join us in person, you can still take part from home through the online auction.

It truly takes a village 💛

First through Fifth Friday

Third grade took the stage this week, bringing to life Where the Earth Begins: A Tale of Three Gifts.

Through stories of Native American creation, the students stepped into a world shaped by earth, sky, and spirit. Their voices carried these stories with care, each child holding a piece of something ancient and meaningful.

There is something special about third grade. It is a year of crossing a threshold, when children begin to meet the world in a new way, asking deeper questions about how things came to be and where they belong within it.

This play met them right there.

Through movement, speech, and presence, they worked together to tell a story much bigger than themselves. You could feel the focus, the courage, and the quiet pride in each role.

Moments like these stay with them.

And with us.

First Through Fifth Friday

This week our 2nd graders stepped into service in a big way! In their classrooms they worked together in an assembly-line style to prepare sandwiches for Dorothy Day Hospitality House in Danbury — a long-standing local nonprofit that feeds those experiencing hunger and homelessness with warm meals, care, and compassion every day.

Seeing our students moving with purpose, sharing responsibilities, and offering their work to help others is such a beautiful example of what Waldorf education nurtures: caring hands, kind hearts, and community-minded action. 💛
