Newton Campus faculty, staff, and students participated in Iowa's Annual Healthiest State Walk today! We stopped during our victory lap around Legacy Plaza Iowa's green space to take a picture beside our newest display of Bear Pride that was graciously donated, created, and installed by The Vernon Company.

Our Baking students and Chef Binney hosted their annual free, buffet-style breakfast for students, staff, and faculty at the Newton Campus this week. From freshly-baked bread and flakey croissants to crispy bacon and just-cracked eggs, everyone gathered together to build relationships and a few breakfast sandwiches.

Community organizations and student clubs were also present to provide students with useful information, resources, and goodies.

Thank you to our Baking students for all your time, effort, and passion that went into this wonderful event. Thanks to Chef Binney for guiding the students as they built their menu, selected recipes, and learned hands-on skills of preparing and cooking food for large events.

Special shoutouts to Jasper County Sheriff's Office, Iowa, Crisis Canines of the Midlands, Proteus, Inc., Heartland Area Education Agency, Crisis Intervention Services, House of Mercy, and Employee Family Resources for coming to our campus and connecting with our students.

Newton residents can enjoy a fun afternoon at Maytag Pool while learning about DMACC on Wednesday, July 29 (rescheduled from its original date), from 1 to 3 p.m. The event, called Dip on DMACC, gives families a chance to relax, swim, and ask questions about Des Moines Area Community College.

The first 100 guests will receive 50% off pool admission, making it an affordable way to beat the summer heat. Each of these guests will also get a free ice cream treat from Cardinal Corner.

Come enjoy the pool, connect with DMACC representatives, and treat yourself to a sweet surprise. This event is a great way to spend a summer afternoon while learning more about local education opportunities.

Do you know a Jasper County youth who grows, bakes, or makes something special? Applications are now open for our Rising Roots Market – Youth Entrepreneur Night at the Newton Farmers Market!

💸 Free to participate!

👧 Who Can Apply?
Youth ages 5–18 who live in Jasper County. Products must be made, grown, or baked by the youth vendor. Youth under 16 must have a parent or guardian present at all times.

🪑 What You’ll Need:

Your own table and chairs
A tent/canopy is encouraged, but not required
Set-up time: 2–4 PM
Tear-down begins at 7 PM

Yesterday was Red Pride Service Day here in Newton! Newton Cardinals Activities & Athletics Newton High School students and DMACC cleaned up by Culvers in town. WEST Academy High School came to campus and helped Iowa State University Extension & Outreach - Jasper County do some spring clean up too! A great day working with the youth in our community.
