Sustainable Wellesley shared information on this January 18th meeting with Neighbors United women on how our changing climate is impacting our health and our families. Wellesley resident and MGH physician, Dr. Regina LaRocque, will discuss the health effects of natural gas infrastructure and the need to move to clean energy sources for Massachusetts. Wellesley College’s Dr. Alden Griffith will provide a framework for taking action in the face of uncertainty and Mothers Out Front - Mobilizing for a Livable Climate will inspire you as well. A surprising reason for resistance to environmental goods and habits

At Dirty Boys Composting we believe that ALL composting is good composting--whether you choose to compost yourself in your backyard or contract with a pick up service. There are pros and cons of either option. Unfortunately, this advertisement for a newer food scrap pick up service does a huge disservice to the environment by wrongly stating that backyard composting yields unwanted odors and pests, in order to drive their business. Don't be fooled! Done correctly, backyard composting is a simple way of recycling food scraps and yard waste without these problems. We know, we have over 250 backyard composting customers and zero problems. Contact us to learn more!

Education is a key component to reducing waste. In the US, even San Francisco, a city well ahead of the recycling & composting curve, struggles with compliance. “If everyone used the blue bins and the green bins correctly, we could recycle and compost more than 90 percent of the material that people are generating..."

San Francisco’s trash-collection company, Recology, estimates that on any given day, the city produces 5,000 tons of waste — the equivalent of about 3,250 new Toyota Priuses.  Behind the scenes, workers at Recology plants wade through items ranging from bloody Q-Tips to construction materials, ...

Congratulations, Amy Sangiolo for Mayor! Fitting that a mayoral candidate with composting in their platform has earned the support of some of Newton's most environmentally-concerned citizens! Newton, Massachusetts

In case you haven't heard Amy speak about her environmental creds compared to the other candidates, you should watch this video: https://www.facebook.com/Newton.Mayoral.Farm.Forum/videos/139094930013497/

Mystery is solved! Here's the text of an email I received. Thank you for your support, Green Votes For Amy! I'm so proud to represent you. Sticker away--I LOVE IT! Newton, Massachusetts

Dear Councilor Sangiolo,

We represent a coalition of Newton citizens who believe that climate change and preservation of the environment are paramount issues confronting Newton’s next mayor. The devastating impact of climate change, combined with the lack of environmental stewardship on a national level, underscores the need for strong, local leadership. We’ve evaluated all the mayoral candidates’ backgrounds, positions, and voting records, and it’s clear that you are the best person to lead the city forward. Due to your experience, passion, knowledge, commitment, and foresight, we wholeheartedly endorse you as the next Mayor of Newton.

As a symbol of our support, we’ve added green sprout stickers to our Amy Sangiolo for Mayor yard signs. The sprout signifies that:

· Amy Sangiolo is a leader on environmental issues. We’ve watched the video of the Newton Mayoral Farm Forum. Clearly, you are the most environmentally serious and progressive candidate.

· Amy Sangiolo’s campaign is growing. Several of us recently switched from supporting one of the other candidates to supporting your campaign. After learning about your background and voting record, we believe you have the knowledge and vision to make Newton a true environmental leader.

· Amy Sangiolo is refreshingly different from the other candidates. We love your honesty, depth of knowledge on all issues facing Newton, and your willingness to give direct, substantive answers to questions.

With your permission, we’d like to make these green sprout stickers available to all supporters with Amy Sangiolo for Mayor yard signs. Hopefully, our grassroots effort will encourage Newton residents to learn about what sets you apart from the other candidates.

Thank you for running for Mayor of Newton!

Sincerely,

Members of Green Votes For Amy
