Mrs. Gatton’s class had the sweetest time celebrating Apple Day in their classroom! 🍎

Students took a fun virtual field trip to learn more about apples, made some cute apple crafts and art, and even got to do an apple tasting! 😋🍏 These little learners had so much fun exploring, creating, tasting, and learning all about one of their favorite fall fruits!

It was a bushel of fun for these sweet apples! 🍎❤️

🎨🎶 Celebrating National Arts in Education Week! 🦉💚💛

This week, we’re celebrating the incredible role the arts play in helping our students create, express, explore, and shine! ✨

A HUGE thank-you to our amazing arts educators, Mrs. McIntosh, our music teacher, and Mrs. Benson, our art teacher! 🎶🎨

These two go above and beyond for our students, often working extra hours to provide special experiences and opportunities that make the arts come alive at Balls Creek. We are so grateful for the creativity, passion, and love they pour into our students every day!

🍎 Apple Investigations in Mrs. Anderson’s First Grade Class! 🍏

Mrs. Anderson’s first graders have been busy learning, investigating, tasting, and having lots of apple-themed fun!

🍎 Students sampled different varieties of apples and then graphed their favorites. They even got to taste apple pie and apple cider!

🔬 Our young scientists also conducted an apple investigation. Students created a hypothesis about which liquid would keep an apple from browning and then observed the results to see if their predictions were correct.

🌳 Throughout our apple study, we’ve learned about what apple trees—and all living things—need in order to grow. We also explored the life cycle of an apple tree and discovered how an apple tree changes throughout each of the four seasons.

From scientists to mathematicians to taste testers, these first graders have been learning in the sweetest way! 🍎🍏🥧🧃🌳

Mrs. Surratte’s first graders are putting science into action! 🔬

Students are learning about balance and motion, exploring stable positions and counterweights. Today, they used tag board arches and triangles to find the perfect balance point and experimented with placing counterweights in different spots to see if their creations could balance in more than one way!

Hands-on science makes learning so much fun! 👏🔬🦉

It is with tremendous pride that we share that Balls Creek Elementary School MET growth expectations for the 2025–2026 school year with a growth score of 82.3, based on North Carolina’s accountability model! We are also incredibly proud to have maintained our status as a distinguished “B” school!

These accomplishments reflect the hard work and growth of our students, fueled by the SPARK our staff works to IGNITE each day.

Student success is truly a team effort, and we are grateful to have families and a community that believes so strongly in our school!
