For students who have art in the Des Moines Art Festival this weekend:
Families and Teachers:
Yesterday, the Des Moines Arts Festival site experienced dangerous thunderstorms with heavy rain and extremely high winds. During the storm, several tents, including those for the Student Art Exhibition, were damaged. Despite being walled and secured, the high winds and rain caused a lot of damage. All of the students’ artwork got wet. Some a little, some a lot. A small amount was damaged.
Our volunteers secured an indoor location to dry the artwork overnight. We are doing our best to clean up what we can, and we will rehang it today. When you join us this weekend, you may see water damage on the artwork. We are heartbroken that some of the work was damaged. Please be assured that we are doing our best to repair the damage, rehang the artwork, and open on time for today’s kick-off.
We are very proud of your students’ artwork, and we know you are too. We look forward to celebrating the student’s impressive accomplishments this weekend at the Student Art Exhibition.
