Suppressing your anger about a school district responding to the racism that is present in Dr. Seuss’s books doesn’t end racism. Exerting your anger doesn’t not end racism either.
Understanding why you are angry over a children’s book author helps you to understand:
White rage
White Fragility
Whiteness is an identity. It’s worth understanding why you hold on to these aspects of white culture so tightly and don’t consider the impact that showing racist caricatures has on students of color.

Join Newton Public Schools on February 24th for a presentation led by Eddie Fergus as he discusses the work and challenges of becoming an antiracist school district and how we can implement change in the practice of equity.
Joined by a panel of NPS principals: Henry Turner (Newton North High), John Harutunian (Oak Hill Middle) and Suzie Talukdar (Underwood Elementary), we will share some of the opportunities and obstacles that face us as we strive to be a more equitable and just district for all.
Open to all Newton families, staff and partners.
