Microschool for the accelerated learning Grades 4 - 9
We foster curiosity, creativity, & purpose in every student. All students are gifted.

Washington Square Academy’s roots go back many years. Founder Jenny Ho started Study Hall to support Brookline students after school and during summer breaks. From a living room table, Jenny’s academic endeavor began with just a handful of students and an educational philosophy rooted in supporting students to ‘learn without limits’. Study Hall Brookline evolved into WSA quite honestly by necessit

We’ve just returned from our annual school camping trip — a meaningful experience that brought our students closer to nature and to one another. 🌲
Without the distractions of technology, they spent time building friendships, developing resilience, and creating memories that will last a lifetime.
Experiences like this reflect the heart of our school community: connection, growth, and belonging. 💚
If you’re looking for a school where your child is known, supported, and inspired — we’d love to welcome you.

A microschool is a small, student-centered learning community designed to provide personalized attention, flexible teaching, and accelerated learning opportunities. At Washington Square Academy, our size is our strength! Every student is seen, supported, and academically challenged.

Why a microschool?

* Starting off strong, and most on the nose, smaller classroom sizes. Smaller classes mean focused academic assistance and accessible support for each student.
* Secondly, customized curriculums ensure each child moves at their own pace, whether they need extra support or more challenge.
* Our community-centric learning at WSA creates a safe, close-knit environment where students thrive academically as well as socially by engaging in programs with the local community.

If you’ve been looking for a school that combines academic rigor with emotional and professional development, WSA is here for your family.

📅 First day of school is September 2nd. Don't worry, there’s still time to join our community!

Our 2025 Field Day was a huge success!! From trivia races to racket ball, water balloon dodgeball, and three-legged races, our WSA students took full advantage of that weekday sunshine and made the perfect equation for some solid Field Day fun!

Thank you to the Brookline community for all of your support of WSA! We couldn't have grown from a 'covid program' to a full school without your support and the wonderful community we've called home for five years now.

If you, or someone you know is interested in WSA, please send us a DM or inquire on our website today! We'd love to meet you!

A huge thanks to everyone who was able to join us for our Graduation Dinner event last night! It was such a wonderful time to get to spend together as we usher these students on into the next chapter of life 💚

Our evening was filled with laughter, speeches, great food, and - our favorite part - the thrum of community. We are building a future for our students, but also a community for them to feel safe and connected to the world around them.

To our award winners and our WSA Middle School Class of 2025, a huge congratulations!!

This is something our Head of School, Jenny Ho, spoke on at our graduation event last night! Greet the day with kindness and gratitude 🥰

💡Let’s finish strong! As we enter into this last week of exams at Washington Square Academy, we have a few tips and small habits to get us through this final push!

1. Give your old exams one last look over. Not only is it a good review for content, but it also familiarizes you with testing formats. You will have a better idea of what to expect and what the teacher is looking for in the answers!
2. Talk out theories with your parents or friends. Saying something out loud reaffirms the idea in your brain, and sometimes helps you develop a deeper understanding of the concept itself!
3. Ask your teachers for their tips! We are building a community here at WSA. We teach our students to ask questions, BE CURIOUS, and engage with the world around them. That includes their teachers, who - believe it or not - were once students, too!
4. Organize your space. Organizing the world around provides calm for the space in your head. There is less ‘clutter’ to distract you, inside and out.
5. Eat some brain food. Did you know there is food out there to promote brain productivity? Grab some blueberries and trail mix before your last study session, and a protein-packed meal before exams!
6. Get. Your. Sleep! It’s tempting to let anxiety or pressure get the better of you and stay up all night studying, but this is counterintuitive! Your brain is growing, too, and it needs time to recover. Make sure to get your full eight hours, especially the night before your exam!

GOOD LUCK, WSA STUDENTS!

We're here to support you, parents and students alike! Reach out if you need more tips on how to help your gifted student through this exam season.

'Education' is such a wide and continuously evolving practice, it's easy to feel lost in the terminology sometimes.

'Gifted and Talented' refers to accelerated programs and curriculum for students who demonstrate a particular aptitude. This can apply to academia, creative endeavors, musical inclinations, or athletic talent.

At Washington Square Academy, we personalize our approach to help students identify areas of interest and employ academic strategies around those goals. Inquire with us today to see where how your gifted and talented student can thrive in our program!

What an Impact💥

Former WSA student, Jason (who is too cool for us old folk here on Facebook) collaborated with Malaysian graffiti artist, Kenji Chai Vui Yung, and via his non-profit, Impact Walls, to produce this wicked piece in Brookline. We can't wait to see which wall will make the next impact! Great work, everyone.

We're proud of you, Jason 🥳

Come visit our gifted and talented micro school, Washington Square Academy, in Newton, MA!

We teach our kids not just through lectures and practice sheets, but also through immersive programs in collaboration with others. One such example is our newly established collaboration with NYU!

What does that even mean? Well...

It means we take our students on an annual trip down to NYC, where we explore museums, check out the Big Apple, and - you guessed it - take a tour of the NYU campus! Our students have the opportunity to make an early first impression, which is proving to be more and more important in the higher-ed acceptance process.

Inquire today to learn more about our '25/'26 academic program. We look forward to meeting you!
