We like to celebrate our staff when they reach a year with the program that ends with a -5 or a -0. This year, Ward After-School is celebrating 5 years of dedication from these two lovely educators! Thank you Katarina and Lacey for all the love and support you show our students, and especially for all the sewing and crochet projects!! Here's to 5 more!!

Ward After-School owes so much to this woman, Tina Piejak. Tina sadly passed away a few weeks ago, and we want to pay her a tribute and honor her legacy here.

For 16 years, Tina lovingly led our sports programming and brought so much creativity and energy to everything she did — gym games, jump rope (including double Dutch!), Olympic games, square dancing, volleyball and more. Most importantly, Tina is THE REASON we have our legendary game, Elimo! She brought this game to the program in the late 1980s and we are still playing it today!

We ❤️ you, Tina. Your imprint on Ward After-School lives on.

We are thrilled to announce the first annual Ward After-School Scholarship! This was offered to graduating high school seniors who are alumnI of our program! Meet our inaugural awardees, Avnish and Ella. Avnish, heading to Virginia Tech in the fall, remembers WASO, Ward Bucks, Elimo and pottery with Gail. He credits After-School for opening him up to new people and experiences. Ella, heading to Skidmore in the fall, will be studying theater. We bet you can guess where she first learned to love performing and being on stage! She credits Liz for lighting this spark within her!

Congrats Ella and Avnish! We are so proud of you!!!

Before coming to After-School in the afternoon, Liz often has a full morning brightening the day for patients at Boston Children’s Hospital. We are lucky to know such a caring and funny person! I wonder who she’s calling? https://www.facebook.com/laughterleagues

Huge shout-out to the Boston College EMS team for joining our OK Club a few weeks ago. This talented and skilled group of BC students are also EMTs who volunteer their time with a student-run organization that provides emergency medical care and education to the BC community.

They talked to our students about why they became EMTs, showed us medical equipment and their fly car, and even put us to the test with a medical care relay! I don’t think any of us will forget how difficult it is to take off shaving cream-contaminated gloves properly!

Thank you to Zach, Amanda, Andrew, Amely, Sydney, Megan, Luke, Andrew and Molly! Keep up the great work!! Boston College Ems

Many hands go into preparing and presenting our Thanksgiving table and celebration every year. Such a special Ward After-School tradition!

Thinking of our good friend Dave as we get ready for our Thanksgiving celebration at After-School tomorrow. We miss him dearly, but his memory truly lives on in this special tradition here at our program❤️
