......where love of Judaism grows!

10/08/2026

This week, all of the ELC classes enjoyed music class with Cantor Snyder, where we sang, danced, and had fun together with all of our friends. We also had a special lesson with Heidi about the creation story. Using a felt board and reading a book, Heidi helped us learn about the different parts of the world around us and how they were created.

Here’s a little sneak peek at what’s been happening in all of our ELC classrooms so far this week!

The ELC classes have had a busy and festive end to the week! Yesterday, Heidi visited each classroom for a special Sukkot and Simchat Torah lesson. Today, Rabbi Stern and Cantor Snyder led Shabbat in the Sanctuary, followed by a joyful Simchat Torah celebration. We also enjoyed eating snack in the Sukkah. Shabbat Shalom and Chag Simchat Torah Sameach!

This week, the ELC classes have been learning about Sukkot while exploring fun, hands-on activities inspired by the fall harvest.

This morning, Rabbi Stern and Cantor Snyder led a beautiful Family Shabbat service in the Sukkah! Afterwards, everyone enjoyed a delicious pizza lunch together. What a wonderful way to celebrate the holiday as a community!
Chag Sukkot Sameach and Shabbat Shalom!

This week, we have been learning about the story of Jonah and the Whale. The story of Jonah reinforces the important Yom Kippur messages of forgiveness and saying “I’m sorry”. Today, we had a special Whalemobile enrichment program and all of the ELC classes were able to walk inside and explore a life-sized inflatable humpback whale!

This morning, Rabbi Stern and Cantor Snyder led a special Yom Kippur service designed especially for families with young children. Following the service, the ELC offered a variety of fun activities for the children to enjoy.

Heidi joined all of the ELC classes this week for a Yom Kippur lesson. She read stories, reviewed ritual items, and focused on the concept of saying, “I’m sorry.” We also popped bubbles to symbolize getting rid of our mistakes. This ritual is called tashlich.

Every Monday, Cantor Snyder leads all of our ELC classes in the celebration of Havdalah. Havdalah marks the separation of Shabbat from the week ahead. Havdalah begins at the close of Shabbat, when three stars appear in the night sky on Saturday evening. This tradition is a beautiful and meaningful way to begin the week together as a school community.

This morning, Rabbi Stern and Cantor Snyder led a joyful Rosh Hashanah service designed especially for families with young children. After the service, everyone gathered in the ELC to enjoy challah, apples, and honey. We also had fun painting with apples and planting apple seeds to take home. L’Shanah Tovah! Wishing everyone a happy, healthy, and sweet New Year!
