Traffic Pattern for the HS/MS

Between the hours of 7:30-8:30 AM and 2:30-3:00 PM, ALL drivers should abide by the following procedures:
-The only place students should be dropped off and/ or picked up is at the main entrance to the school on Caroline Street. NO students should be dropped off or picked up at the back of the school on Gantt Street. Drop off and pick up on 5th Street is permitted, however, students MUST enter the school through the main entrance on Caroline Street.
-NO cars may enter the bus loop (between the red X’s on 6th and Gantt Street) during drop off and pick up.
-All cars during drop off and pick up on Caroline Street, MUST turn left on 6th Street to exit. NO cars may turn right on 6th or take Ridge Street to drop down to Gantt Street during drop off and pick up due to the Bus Loop being ACTIVE.
-Students have access to 3 parking lots (see below). The upper parking lot by the football field can ONLY be entered or exited using Ridge Street during drop off and pick up. Gantt Street may NOT be used to access the upper parking lot by the football field during drop off and pick up.

If you are caught passing buses when the buses are actively dropping off or picking up (lights flashing, booms out, and their stop signs out), you will be stopped and PSP will be called. Passing a bus when they are actively dropping off or picking up students is ILLEGAL and will result in the following penalties per Pennsylvania State Law:
-60 Day Driver’s License Suspension
-Five (5) points on your driving record
-$250 fine plus a $35 surcharge

Thank You for Making the Newport Mini-THON Relay a Success!
On behalf of our Newport Mini-THON Relay, thank you to everyone who helped make this year's event such an incredible success. Because of the generosity, hard work, and support of our community, our small school raised an amazing $4,728.02 to help support children and families battling childhood cancer through Four Diamonds. Our students had a wonderful time, and none of this would have been possible without the many people and businesses who stepped up to help. A special thank you to: Our Administration for grilling hot dogs. Our Maintenance Department for preparing everything for the event. Our dedicated teachers and staff for their support and encouragement. Our amazing parent volunteers and high school helpers who gave their time and energy throughout the morning. The Peters family for their support.Heller's Hardware for generously donating the use of our snow cone machine.Weis, Giant, and Karns for their generous donations and support.Adam Smith for donating the whipped topping for one of the students' favorite Pie the Teacher stand—it is always a huge hit!We were blessed with beautiful weather, smiling faces, and a community that came together for an incredible cause. Every donation, volunteer, and act of kindness helped make this event a tremendous success. Thank you for helping us make a difference in the lives of children fighting cancer. Together, we are making an impact, one step at a time. Stay tuned! We will be announcing our final Four Diamonds fundraising total for the year, and we are already looking forward to another year of fundraising, making memories, and supporting children and families through Four Diamonds.

🎨✨ Newport High School Art Students Bring Creativity to Life! ✨🎨

A huge thank you to the Perry County Council of the Arts for providing professional muralist Janeen Hershey through the Education in the Arts program to work with Newport High School’s art students.

For an entire week, Janeen shared her professional guidance and artistic talents with our students. NHS art students had the incredible opportunity to paint alongside her, learning new techniques while growing as young artists.

The completed mural, now displayed in the high school hallway, brightens the space and reflects the strong sense of community at Newport High School. The mural was designed to create an interdisciplinary connection among students and staff while enhancing the mental and emotional well-being of everyone who shares the space through beautiful and meaningful artwork. 💙💛

This project would not have been possible without the generous financial support of the Newport Buffalo Foundation. Once again, the NBF has provided our students and teachers with an enhanced educational experience that will leave a lasting impact for years to come.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this amazing project possible! 👏

Newport Alum Named New Pennsylvania FFA Director
We are proud to highlight NHS Alum, Thomas Gabel, who will become the executive director of the Pennsylvania FFA on June 1, 2026. Please see the article from Lancaster Farming. This newspaper has over 56,000 subscribers and is read nationwide. Special thanks to NHS FFA Advisor Natalie Barkley, who has mentored many students who were recognized at the highest level in FFA and went on to pursue successful careers in agriculture-related fields. Gabel also referenced middle school science teacher Mr. Eric McConnel, who recognized his leadership abilities and challenged him to step out of his comfort zone with an inquiry-based teaching style. Thomas will now have the opportunity to positively impact FFA Chapters and students statewide hopefully for many years to come. It’s very rewarding to see Newport Alumni give teachers credit for their success and growth. 🚗🔧 Hands-On Learning in Action! 🔧🚗

Thank you to Maguire's Ford of Duncannon for providing Newport High School students with an engaging, real-world demonstration from their mobile service team!

Students learned how a mobile unit operates and explored the basics of an oil change—bringing classroom concepts to life. Mrs. Barkley’s Ag Mechanics class especially benefited from this in-person experience that directly connects to what they’re learning in class.

The Maguire's Ford team also shared insights into the wide range of careers in the automotive repair and sales industry, giving students valuable exposure to future opportunities.

A special thank you to:
• Thomas Briggs – Mobile Service Manager
• John Reeder – Service Manager
• Frank Paladino – Parts & Service Director
• Matthew Dunne – Duncannon Mobile Service Technician
• Raphael Guzman – Hershey Mobile Service Technician

We appreciate you taking the time to invest in our students—they loved the experience! 👏
