Dear Afternoon Pickup Adults,
As you have probably noticed, the gym at student pick up time is pretty chaotic. Lots of primary kiddos, lots of other kids picking up those kids, and lots of adults.
Please understand that before I can get the students to the gym for dismissal, I have to wait for another teacher to pick up some students from my room to attend club. Our classroom is quite literally the furthest from the gym. Getting anywhere between 13-17 kids organized and to the gym in a short span of time is challenging, despite many great efforts.
I ask that if our class has not yet made it to our usual "spot" by the time you arrive, that you please do not come into the gym any further than that spot. Please just wait there.
When the kids are greeted at the gym doors, and they see you, or you are calling for them, they want to run off. That is extremely dangerous, and quite frankly, terrifying for me as the person who is still responsible for them up until I can personally physically see them with you. Additionally, if i have to speak with one of you, or one of you need to speak with me, it's extremely difficult to do so while looking out for kids who are trying to run off to their adult.
I understand many of you have places to be and other kids to get. I assure you, it will maybe only take an extra 10 seconds, if that. But it will go much smoother and be much safer if the kids can follow the procedures that they know and have practiced.
Thank you,
Ms. C
