Good Evening NES Hawks!
This is your principal, Laura Parish, calling to give you updates and reminders for the first week of school! This message will be a little longer than normal because I have a lot of information to share with you. If this message cuts out early, you can find it on ClassDojo and Facebook.
This Monday, August 24th, is the first day of school. Drop-off will begin at 7:30. We will have staff on duty at this time to assist our students. Please do not let students out of the car before 7:30 because we will not have staff on duty until then.
If you are walking your students from across the street, they must have an adult with them until 7:30. The tardy bell rings at 8:00. Students who would like to eat breakfast in the cafeteria should arrive prior to 7:55.
To maintain the safety of all of our students, grown ups who walk their students up to the front entrance will be asked to "kiss and go," and our staff members will assist your student with locating his or her classroom or the cafeteria as well as bringing any extra supplies to his or her classroom. Thank you for your understanding of this safety protocol.
Kindergarten students will start this week on staggered entry. On Kindergarten students’ staggered entry day, students and parents may begin arriving at 8:45 AM. Our parent meeting will begin promptly at 9:00 while students are spending time with their new friends in their classroom. Please note that bus transportation will not be available to school the morning of staggered entry; however, Kindergarteners will take their regular transportation home. All Kindergarten students will attend their first full day of school on Thursday, August 27th.
Afternoon dismissal is at 3:00. Please have your car tag posted so that staff can easily call your student's car tag number over the radio. Vehicles without a car tag will be asked to park and will have to wait until all cars have gone through the line before we can assist. There are no exceptions to this rule so that we can maintain the safety of all students. Parents picking up by car are asked to remain in their vehicle but if you and your student are walking home, we ask that you wait on the concrete top in front of the gym, present a car tag or ID to staff, and your student will be dismissed after the car line has ended.
Transportation changes and early check-outs must take place by 2:20 p.m. This ensures that we have time to relay changes to our teachers and get students in the correct location for dismissal.
To set our students up for success, we will be spending the first month of school teaching and practicing our school procedures and expectations. Please note that we ask our students’ grown-ups to refrain from joining us for lunch until Monday, October 5th.
Our bus drivers have been working hard and on overtime to work on their bus routes. As always on the first week of school, there will be minor changes and delays. We ask for your patience and understanding as our number one goal is to get all of our bus riders to and from school safely. Students should be standing at their bus stop 5-10 minutes before their assigned pick-up time. Kindergarten students must have an adult at their bus stop in order to be dropped off.
Lastly, please be sure to join your student’s ClassDojo. This is where important and up-to-date information is shared. If you are on Facebook, be sure to follow us as important information is shared there as well.
The night before the first day of school is an exciting time for all of us. I hope you can rest in knowing that each and every one of our students will be loved and well taken care of. Thank you for your support from home. This is going to be an amazing school year for all of us! We will see you tomorrow NES Hawks!
