A Celebration of Faithful Leadership & Service

As Tom Hussmann prepares for retirement, we invite our Camp Albemarle family and community to join us for a special Vespers Celebration honoring his years of faithful leadership, ministry, and service.

As the sun sets over Bogue Sound, we'll gather at Vesper Dell to give thanks for Tom's dedication, the lives he has touched, and the lasting legacy he leaves at Camp Albemarle.

Following Vespers, stay for s'mores, conversation, and fellowship around the campfire. We hope to see former campers, families, staff, friends, and supporters as we celebrate this special chapter in Camp Albemarle's story.

A New Chapter of Leadership at Camp Albemarle!

With gratitude for the past and excitement for the future, Camp Albemarle is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Patrick Brandon Wood as our next Executive Director!

Patrick brings more than two decades of Christian ministry and nonprofit leadership experience, along with a heart for serving others and a passion for sharing the love of Christ. We look forward to welcoming him to the Camp Albemarle family in November.

As we prepare for this transition, we also extend our heartfelt gratitude to Tom Hussmann for his 18 years of faithful leadership, dedication, and service. Tom's vision and commitment have helped shape Camp Albemarle and its ministries, leaving a lasting legacy upon which we will continue to build.

From Summer Camp and Nature School to Boundless Horizons, Alby Programs, and year-round ministry, our commitment remains the same: creating meaningful opportunities to grow in faith, build relationships, discover new possibilities, and experience God's creation.

We give thanks for all that God has accomplished through Tom's leadership and look forward with hope and anticipation to this next chapter with Patrick.

Pirate Day took over Boundless Horizons!

What a FUN day celebrating the restoration of our pirate ship at Albemarle in the Pines!

We are incredibly grateful to the Big Rock Foundation for their generous gift that made this restoration possible. This ship will be a place for adventure, imagination and plenty of fun for our Boundless Horizons participants, Nature School students, summer campers and so many others for years to come.

And a HUGE thank you to the Beaufort Pirate Invasion pirates for joining us today and making the celebration even more special! They brought plenty of pirate spirit, and lots of smiles, to our Boundless crew.

Ready to take your sailing skills to the next level?

Camp Albemarle’s Sailing Club is launching this fall for sailors ages 10–14 who are ready to move beyond the basics! Over six Saturdays, Sept. 19th - Oct. 24th, participants will build confidence on the water while developing racing tactics, boat speed, regatta skills, and teamwork.

Whether your goal is to race or simply become a stronger, more confident sailor, come spend your Saturday mornings learning, growing, and having fun on the water at Camp Albemarle!

What a beautiful day at Boundless Horizons!

Today was filled with friendship, creativity, teamwork, and plenty of fun as our participants tie-dyed shirts, played games, and worked together in the kitchen to make homemade pizzas and a fresh salad bar. These are the kinds of days that remind us exactly why Boundless Horizons exists—to create a place where everyone is welcomed, valued, encouraged, and given opportunities to learn, grow, serve, and simply belong.

We are especially grateful to Southern Bank⁠ for their incredibly generous $20,000 gift to support Boundless Horizons. More than the gift itself, we are thankful for Southern Bank’s belief in our participants and in the work this program is doing. Their partnership is helping us continue to build meaningful experiences and expand opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in our community.

From cabins to classrooms… a new season begins at Camp Albemarle!

The sounds of summer camp may have quieted for another year, but this special place certainly hasn’t. This week, our campus is coming alive again as Nature School at Camp Albemarle prepares to welcome students for the 2026–2027 school year!

The cabins, waterfront, trails and wide-open spaces that help make summer camp so special now become an extension of the classroom, a place to learn, explore, grow in faith, build friendships and discover God’s amazing creation.

We are so grateful for our Nature School teachers and staff who have been hard at work preparing their classrooms and welcoming families into another year of learning and adventure.

Different season. Same beautiful mission. What a blessing to see all God continues to do through Camp Albemarle, summer camp, Nature School, Boundless Horizons and beyond, as we seek to serve our community and help people of all ages grow in faith, confidence and purpose.

One last song. One last prayer. One unforgettable week.

As our very first Boundless Adventure Camp came to a close, we gathered one final time to celebrate all that God had done. Throughout the week, we watched friendships grow, confidence blossom, barriers fade, and God’s love shine through every camper, counselor, volunteer, and family.

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” — John 1:5

A heartfelt thank you to Mary Cheatham King Real Estate for supporting this incredible week, and to Open Door Church, Cape Carteret Baptist Church, and Chick-fil-A for blessing our campers and staff with wonderful meals and fellowship.

And to our amazing counselors, volunteers, and staff, thank you for the patience, joy, encouragement, and love you poured into this week. You helped make Boundless Adventure Camp everything we hoped it could be.

Another incredible day at Boundless Adventure Camp!

Today was filled with tree climbing, swimming, birdhouse painting, laughter, and new friendships. Every day we continue to see what happens when campers of all abilities come together to encourage and celebrate one another.

A huge thank you to Mary Cheatham King Real Estate, our supporting community sponsor, for believing in this vision and for spending the day volunteering with our campers while leading today's birdhouse craft. We are so grateful for your partnership!

We also extend our heartfelt thanks to Cape Carteret Baptist Church for providing a delicious lunch and blessing everyone with wonderful hospitality.
