Congratulations to one of our very own HEA members, Mr. Jaz Sedgwick!

Congratulations to one of our very own HEA members, Mr. Jaz Sedgwick!

We are proud to celebrate Jaz Sedgwick as our third Teacher Who Shines.

Mr. Sedgwick from Aberdeen Elementary received an impressive 8 nominations, and after reading the wonderful things his community had to say about him, it’s easy to see why. His impact extends far beyond the classroom.

Mr. Sedgwick was described as a compassionate and dedicated educator who consistently goes above and beyond. Whether he’s teaching, tutoring, helping with summer school, supporting school activities, or taking the time to build meaningful relationships, he continues to show up for his school community.

His nominators described him as an incredible role model, an effective educator, and someone who genuinely wants to see those around him learn, grow, and reach their goals.
His journey to becoming a teacher is inspiring as well. After beginning college with the dream of becoming an educator, he had to put that dream on hold while raising his growing family. But he never gave up. He continued working toward his goal, completed his education, and is now living the dream he worked so hard to achieve.

One nomination summed up his dedication perfectly: “Every child, every day, whatever it takes!”

Mr. Sedgwick, your nominations are a wonderful reflection of just how many lives you’ve impacted. Thank you for your compassion, dedication, and the positive difference you make each day. One more teacher gets this before the month is out. Nominations close Thursday, August 27.

Public dollars belong in public schools! In January 2027, the first nationwide voucher scheme in U.S. history is set to launch, threatening to divert billions of taxpayer dollars away from our classrooms and our children.

Join parents, educators, and leaders from across Virginia to break down how this scheme works, how it impacts local school budgets and how we can do about it together. 90% of Virginia’s children rely on public schools to build the future. Let's keep our resources where our students are.
