What we need is collective bargaining so we can have a seat at the table and negotiate for real contracts that actually protect our rights. Then maybe we would have less licensed teachers leaving the classroom. This ITMC might be a temporary band-aid to solution to get licensed teachers to come to this area, but they won’t stay long once they realize they’re being taken advantage of for below average pay.

Hampton Roads has the highest teacher vacancy rate in the state and a newly signed Virginia bill could help address the issue.

Gov. Abigail Spanberger signed the Interstate Teacher Mobility Compact, or ITMC, and several other education bills Monday at Highland Springs High School in Henrico County.

The bill is designed to create a streamlined pathway to licensure, remove barriers to obtaining a license in a new state and support the relocation of eligible military spouses.
