Today, students from Warwick High School participated in Buddy Reading with some of our Saunders Spartans! Activities like this not only give our high school students the opportunity to serve as leaders within their community, but also provide a glimpse into the future for our elementary learners. Thank you to our Youth Development Leads and Activities Directors for making experiences like these possible!

The first Fun Friday of the year was a hit! We checked up on our Level Up students, met Level Up parents AND the new elected (just yesterday) Vice President and Historian of Sedgefield Elementary! We held a math fact competition, became honorary police officers, and celebrated our outstanding student leaders! What a great way to end the week! Thank you to our partners at the Newport News Police Department for their support!

Special shout out to the Blossom and RISE! Coaches from Newsome Park Elementary, Huntington Middle, and Heritage High for creating an extraordinary bridging experience! ✨

Today, students from Newsome Park visited Heritage High School. They saw performances from band, ROTC, athletic groups and chorus. They met with student leaders from Huntington to learn more about what to expect in middle school and from high school leaders about the various opportunities that await them if they value their education, work hard and stay focused.

They followed up with a tour of the school. The Navigators were encouraged to think about their goals, “see themselves” in these spaces and envision their futures. Thank you to the Canes for being such amazing hosts and giving the Navigators a head start on their translation to middle school!
