It's throwback Thursday!
In May, our 5th grade students participated in a field trip to the Virginia Institute for Marine Sciences (VIMS)!
The students studied the biosphere and hydrosphere throughout 5th grade, and as the school year came to a close, they went to the water to collect plant and animal specimens. The VIMS staff ran the students through what they had collected during their seining, and shared fascinating information about the flora and fauna of the York River. The 5th graders also examined the contents of an oyster habitat, noting the plethora of species happily living there in addition to the oysters themselves.
It was an amazing experience for our students!

Blessed Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus!
Our theme this past school year was "You made us for yourself, O God, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you" (Saint Augustine). June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and in today's reading the Lord said, "Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light" (Mt 11:25-30).
During our last school Mass, Father Dan blessed Sister Anna Joseph and Sister Anna Joy as they prepare to move to their new missions this fall. Please pray for them - especially Sister Anna Joy on her feast day (the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus).
Lord, meek and humble of heart, pray for us. ❤️🔥

Yesterday, before the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage arrived on the OLMC Campus, Bishop Knestout consecrated the Catholic Diocese of Richmond to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
After the conclusion of Mass at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, the pilgrims began their journey to OLMC. Check out the Catholic Diocese of Richmond page for more photos from last night's Mass and Praise and Worship Adoration at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Then check out their last stop within our diocese - Williamsburg - before heading to the Diocese of Arlington. Maybe you will see some of our school families! 😎
If you would like to share any of your photos from the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage with our community, please email them to [email protected].
Lastly, we are on day 3 of the Novena to the Sacred Heart. Join us in praying for our nation and families.

On June 11, 2026, as part of the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. bishops will consecrate the United States of America to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. We are encouraging our families to pray the Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus beginning today - June 3rd - and ending on June 11th.

Our nation is only as strong as its families, and its families are only as strong as their faithfulness to God. Jesus’ pierced heart allows His love and mercy to pour out onto us and heal our wounds. If you want to strengthen your family in faith, consider uniting with the Bishops and consecrating your family to the Sacred Heart this year on June 11th with the Bishops or June 12th - the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Parents do you remember the Pizza Hut BOOK IT Program?
This weekend Father Dan shared in his homily about a nostalgic trip to a reopened traditional Pizza Hut. Father Dan's homily was about being present during life's ups and downs and a meal - the more meaningful meal being the Eucharist!
In turn, we thought it would be fun to share this link for The BOOK IT Program another nostalgic memory linked to Pizza Hut for parents who grew up in the 80's and 90's. The program encourages children to read with the reward of a personal pan pizza.

This weekend marks the first days of summer break for our students. We pray that they enjoy their break and get to experience all the fun of long summer days with family and friends.
Our last day of school was full of awards, saying "see you later" to some great friends and teachers that will be moving on this summer, Mass, and class parties.
Thank you for all the memories; we can't wait to see you in August! Our Lady of Mount Carmel, pray for us.

Come, Holy Spirit, you are welcome here!
On Friday our 5th graders and their kindergarten Mass buddies visited the school chapel to pray for the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Each student went to the altar to pick up a holy card with one of the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit, which include: Counsel, Piety, Understanding, Fortitude, Wisdom, Knowledge, and Fear of the Lord. At the end of their time in the chapel, each gift was called upon and the students responded with "Come, Holy Spirit" to the gift that was on the back of their holy card.
Today the Church celebrates Pentecost - the official end of the Easter season. More than the end of Easter, this is the day the Church celebrates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles. It is the moment when the anxious followers of Jesus were strengthened to proclaim the gospel courageously to the world.
Happy Pentecost! Come, Holy Spirit!
