🎓 HRA is starting the new school year with a lot to celebrate! The College Board recently announced that more than 30% of the entire Upper School student body was recognized with prestigious 2026 AP Scholar Awards and other special recognitions of high achievement in the rigorous AP program and college-preparatory academics overall. 🦀🌊 Would YOU hold a blue crab?! 👀 Friday got a little crabby in Ms. Oaks’ Oceanography class and they loved every minute of it! 💙 Some of our Navigators held a blue crab for the very first time while getting an up close look at the incredible organisms living right in our local waters. But it wasn’t just about making new crab friends! 🦀 Students became ocean scientists, counting the different types of organisms they discovered and recording the date and location of their habitat cube. Throughout the year, they’ll revisit their findings and compare what they discover at different times and in different locations. 🌊🔬 Hands-on. Having fun. That’s learning at HRA! ⚓️💙

With the start of the 2026-2027 school year, HRA’s Student Support Center will now serve students in the Middle School as well as the Upper School, empowering Navigators to take ownership of their learning and achieve excellence at every level! 👏

Having just opened its doors a year ago, the SSC has already had an outstanding impact on the student experience at HRA. Originally open to students in Grades 9-12, the SSC provided personalized academic support and learning strategies for about 40% of the entire Upper School, driving a remarkable average GPA increase of 13%. 😁

Now, with a new slate of executive functioning skills courses taught by student support specialist and varsity football coach Rodney Taylor, the SSC will offer a curriculum and mentorship tailored to the developmental needs of Middle Schoolers and lay a foundation for student success throughout Upper School, college, and beyond!

💙💛💙 Convocation is one of Hampton Roads Academy’s special traditions and a meaningful way to mark the first day of school. Our Middle and Upper School Navigators come together as one community to officially begin a new school year and set the course for the journey ahead. This year, we added a new tradition to the journey. Our Class of 2027 seniors led the way through the halls from fifth grade to senior year, every step has helped shape who they are today—and now, they have the opportunity to lead the Navigators coming behind them.

As we begin HRA’s Year of Resilience, we celebrate where we’ve been, look ahead to where we’re going, and continue navigating the challenges, opportunities, and moments that help us grow. Here’s to the new year of our Navigators charting their course for an incredible school year ahead! Go Navigators! 💙💛💙
