🎷✨ EFMS 8TH GRADE FORMAL 2026 ✨🎷

The Class of 2030 celebrated in style at the EFMS 8th Grade Formal!

From the smiles to the dance floor, it was an evening filled with laughter, friendship, and memories that will last a lifetime. The event provided an opportunity for students to celebrate their accomplishments, reflect on their middle school journey, and enjoy a special evening with classmates before moving on to high school.

We are incredibly proud of the Class of 2030 and look forward to all they will accomplish in the years ahead.

💜 Employee of the Week: Mrs. Rasha Makhail! 💜

This week, we are proud to recognize Mrs. Rasha Makhail, one of our dedicated Site-Based Substitute Teachers at Ella Fitzgerald Middle School.

Mrs. Makhail shared that she is grateful to be part of the Ella Fitzgerald family and appreciates the kindness and care shown throughout our school community. She enjoys working alongside supportive colleagues and values being part of an environment where students and staff feel welcomed and supported.

Mrs. Makhail's positive attitude, flexibility, and willingness to step in wherever needed help ensure that teaching and learning continue smoothly each day. We are grateful for the contributions she makes to our JAZZ family.

In her free time, Mrs. Makhail enjoys reading and listening to good music.

📣 FREE COMMUNITY SPORTS PHYSICALS 📣

Ella Fitzgerald Middle School is excited to partner with the Newport News Fire Department Community Health Bus, Love The Tree of Life Clinic, and the Virginia Department of Health to provide FREE sports physicals for middle and high school students this summer!

The Community Health Bus will be on our campus from 3:00PM–7:00PM on the following dates:
📅 Tuesday, May 26
📅 Tuesday, June 16
📅 Tuesday, June 30
📅 Tuesday, July 14

📍 Ella Fitzgerald Middle School
432 Industrial Park Dr.
Newport News, VA 23608

Families should note:
✔️ Parent/guardian must be present
✔️ Sports physical forms/health history must be completed prior to the exam
✔️ First come, first served
✔️ No new walk-ups accepted after 6:00PM

Vaccines and additional community health resources will also be available on-site.

Please see the flyer for additional details. We encourage our JAZZ families to take advantage of this outstanding opportunity as students prepare for athletic participation next school year!

💜 Employee of the Week: Coach Chelsea Jordan! 💜

This week, we are proud to recognize Coach Jordan, one of our Health and Physical Education teachers at Ella Fitzgerald Middle School. She is currently in her 8th year of teaching, all proudly spent at EFMS.

Coach Jordan shared that she enjoys being part of the PE/RA department because of the opportunity to teach skills that extend beyond the classroom. She also values teaching across all grade levels and building relationships with students throughout the school.

💜 Congratulations to Ms. Jennifer Durand, our Employee of the Week! 💜

Ms. Durand serves as one of our 6th grade science teachers and brings 24 years of educational experience to the classroom. She joined Newport News Public Schools in 2008 and later became part of the Ella Fitzgerald family, where she continues to inspire students through science and meaningful relationships.

Ms. Durand enjoys helping students discover new things about the world around them each day. Outside of school, she enjoys crafting, spending time with her daughters, and relaxing with her dogs.
