*HELP SAVE THE NEWPORT HARBOR BELL BUOY*
US Coast Guard is planning to remove the physical buoy & replace it with a virtual buoy instead. The public comment period for this topic ends next week on March 27th. If you'd like to help save the buoy, please submit your comments to USCG at: [email protected]

-Many small craft will not have access to the technology that will replace the physical buoy through AIS integration. And there is no substitute for analog lights and sounds to mark harbor entrance

-Returning to the harbor at night is greatly aided by lining up the flashing white light from the Bell Buoy with the red and green jetty markers.

-We need a physical light and ringing bell that has worked for 100+ years to navigate safely

-California Sea Lions use this area as a haul-out spot

-This buoy has been a historic marker for the Newport Harbor for over 100 years!

NOAA holding hiring events in San Diego in August | Office of Marine and Aviation Operations NOAA will be holding two hiring events in San Diego in August to recruit professional mariners to work aboard NOAA’s ocean research ships. NOAA operates a fleet of 15 hydrographic survey, oceanographic research and fisheries survey vessels. NOAA ships operate in the U.S. and around the world.
