It’s that time! I went back to work this week for opening meetings and my students come back next week! Summer is never long enough yet I do enjoy “back to school” season. It’s a wonderful opportunity to start anew. Students have the opportunity of a fresh start to be more organized, try a new activity and make new friends.

Cheers to the 2022-2023 school year!

Last week I posted a controversial post about a woman who lets her young child take the subway alone. That’s not my purpose of posting, the article also does a nice job of unpacking the need for risk taking and executive functioning.

Here’s my blog about it:

I stumbled upon this article having to do with modern parenting and Covid. It’s an interesting read with several relevant parenting trends and controversies.

The one that stands out to me and makes it worth the read is how children to need experience independence to help develop executive functioning skills. This is an area of need most educators agree, children need to be allowed to take safe risks, usually the classroom is a perfect place. I’ll expand on this next week in my blog.

Skills vs. Content What is the value of a study skills course? This is one question that has come up as I am teaching study skills classes this summer. I think the best way to understand their value is to compare study skills to general athleticism. I think most people see the value of being a well-rounded athlete who...

Wondering if there are some good activities for children on Election Day?

1. For young children, making red, white and blue cookies is away to start a conversation about Election Day. ❤️

2. Hold a mock election with your family. Create a ballot box, cast votes and declare a winner. 🤍

3. PBS has some great resources https://ca.pbslearningmedia.org/collection/election-collection/💙

4. For older children, model civil discourse. If you disagree with someone remain calm, use facts and do not personally attack the other person. Seeing people respectfully disagree is the cornerstone to this country.❤️

5. Take your kids to the polls with you if are voting in person. 🤍
