Dear Orestimba High School Senior Families,

We want to follow up on our previous communication regarding the game commonly known as “Senior Assassin,” and share an important message from the Newman Police Department following a recent incident in our community.

Newman Police Department Press Release (March 17, 2026):
On March 17, 2026 at approximately 10:16pm, Newman Police Officers were dispatched to the 900 block of Haycastle Court for the report of a subject holding a pistol in a verbal altercation with another individual. As officers responded in emergency mode, an update was provided by the caller that the subject was now pointing the pistol at the other individual.

Four individuals, all later identified as 18-year-old high school seniors from Newman, were located and ordered to the ground. The men stated that they had water guns, which was later confirmed. All four were fully compliant and cooperative with officers throughout the investigation.

It was determined that the group was participating in what is known as “Senior Assassin.” There were no injuries, no crimes found to have been committed, and the group was lectured and released.

While this is a “senior tradition,” parents are encouraged to speak with their seniors and remind them of the potential dangers this game poses. The general public may not be aware of this “game,” as was the case during this incident. Historically, there have also been reports of erratic driving behavior during this activity, and emergency resources are utilized to respond to these incidents, as was the case in this call for service.

As shared previously, Newman-Crows Landing Unified School District does not sanction or support this activity, and we are increasingly concerned about the very real safety risks involved.
While we understand that this may be intended as a fun senior tradition, situations like the one described above highlight how quickly it can escalate into something serious—placing students at risk and creating fear within the community.

We ask for your partnership in speaking with your senior about:

*The potential for dangerous misunderstandings, especially when objects resembling weapons are involved

*The risk of law enforcement response and use of emergency resources

*The importance of making safe, responsible decisions during this important time of year

As a reminder:

*Students are not permitted to participate in “Senior Assassin” on any NCLUSD property

*Participation on campus may result in disciplinary action

*Involvement in unsafe behavior may result in the loss of senior privileges, including participation in end-of-year activities and graduation

Our priority is, and always will be, the safety and well-being of our students and community. We want our seniors to enjoy their final months of high school in a way that reflects the TRIBE values we hold as a school—especially being thoughtful, responsible, and respectful of others.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership.

Sincerely,

Orestimba High School Administration

We thank you for your patience with us as we worked through our first Fully Loaded Baked Potato Presale Fundraiser. Through your support, the senior class pre-sold 600 potatoes!

We would like to thank our parent team of volunteers, who came in to help wash, wrap, and then fill all of those orders. You were truly amazing.

While we know there was a wait time, even we were not expecting, we do thank you for your patience with us.

We are already planning for next year’s class of 2027 fundraiser and we will be streamlining the whole process to address the wait times.

We hope you will support our students next year and again we thank you for supporting the Class of 2026.
