Last Saturday's 'Beginning with Classical Natural Dyes' was a sunny success! We had a great time out at the farm with these lovely folks, and everyone went home with bags bursting with color.

We worked with weld, madder, cochineal, and indigo, and did a bit of overdyeing with each to coax out a spectrum of hues. We're already looking forward to doing it again next season!

Jen wove a beautiful counterpane project in indigo-dyed linen from our Coverlets & Counterpanes class, and we wanted to show it off!

The warp is her hand-dyed 16/1 linen, and the weft is a combination of that same dyed 16/1 and a chunkier, undyed 8/6 linen as the weft. This draft is based on an 19th century cloth reference from Virginia.

This Saturday:
Beginning with Classical Natural Dyes

We still have just a few spots left in this new 1-day dye class coming up Saturday, July 25th! Students will go home with 3 lbs (10 skeins) of wool yarn dyed with combinations of madder, weld, cochineal, and indigo.

No experience necessary! Come learn how to work with these hard-working color sources, and leave with enough yarn to start your next weaving or knitting project.

Do you want to gain a better understanding of your loom's inner workings? Curious about the various styles of looms, and how their features benefit various weave structures? You should check out our Mechanics class!

Mechanics students will dig into the core components of counterbalance, countermarche, and multi-harness setups. Topics include special purpose mounting with jacks and pulleys, back harness double cloth, damask, and more.

This year's session is set for August 31–September 4, and there are still just a handful of spaces available.

Bon voyage to Hope! We were lucky to have her with us this spring, visiting from Middlebury College as our 2026 intern. While she was here, she wove an enormous armful of cloth in wool, cotton, and linen, and helped us with our collections catalogue. Now she's off to language immersion in preparation for her Italian adventure! We can't wait to see where she goes next. :)

p.s. For those of you who asked: The blanket in the second and third photos is the finished product of the last waulking video we posted.
