Live On continues in the vein of Trouble Is…, delivering more of the tight, guitar-driven blues rock that made Kenny Wayne Shepherd a standout of his generation.

Featuring Noah Hunt on vocals and a seasoned backing band, the album builds on the momentum of its predecessor with a slightly grittier edge and a confident, live-in-the-room feel.

Power Windows is Rush’s 11th studio album and one of their most polarizing releases, defined by its distinctly ’80s production and heavy use of synthesizers.

While some fans missed the rawer sound of their earlier work, others — myself included — see it as one of their best, adding to a long line of brilliant albums.

The record features standout tracks like “The Big Money,” “Marathon,” “Mystic Rhythms,” and “Manhattan Project.”

One of the best ways to improve your improvisation is to place restrictions on what you can play.

Limit yourself to two strings, or one position, or only three notes.

When you can't fall back on your usual patterns, you're forced to find new ones.

That's where real creativity develops.

Get specific about what's not working in your playing.

Vague frustration doesn't point to a solution.

Identifying the exact problem does.

Happy Birthday, Lzzy Hale!

Lzzy Hale, lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of Halestorm, was born October 10, 1983, in Red Lion, Pennsylvania.

She started Halestorm with her younger brother Arejay on drums when she was just 13. In the early days, their dad played bass. The band spent years playing bars, fairs, and anywhere else that would book them. They signed with Atlantic Records in 2005, and their self-titled debut came out in 2009. Guitarist Joe Hottinger and bassist Josh Smith rounded out the lineup, which hasn't changed since.

The breakthrough came with The Strange Case Of... in 2012. "Love Bites (So Do I)" won the Grammy for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance, making Halestorm the first female-fronted band to win in that category. Albums like Into the Wild Life, Vicious, and Back from the Dead followed, and they kept the band on rock radio and on the road.

Her voice gets most of the attention, and with good reason. She can sing clean, raw, and full-on scream, sometimes all in one song. But she's also a real guitar player. She holds down the rhythm parts and sings over them every night. In 2019 Gibson made her its first female brand ambassador, and her signature Explorerbird has become part of her look on stage.

What's your favorite Halestorm song?

If playing in front of people makes you nervous, shift your focus.

The audience isn't there to evaluate you — they want to be entertained.

Worrying about how you're coming across pulls your attention away from the one thing that actually matters.

Play for them, not for yourself.

And when you make a mistake — keep going.

Most of the time they won't even know it happened.
