There's a version of "practicing" that feels productive but isn't.

You sit down, pick up the guitar, noodle through some stuff you already know, maybe fumble through something new for a few minutes, then put it down.

An hour gone. Nothing really improved.

Sound familiar?

It's not laziness. It's not a lack of talent. It's the absence of a plan.

A trained teacher will show you what to practice and how to practice it — so every time you pick up the guitar, it actually counts.

If you're getting fret buzz, check where your finger is relative to the fret.

It should be as close to the fret wire as possible without sitting directly on top of it.

That's one small adjustment the fixes the problem more often than not.

V is Spock’s Beard at full strength — their fifth studio album and one of the high points of the Neal Morse era. Released in 2000, it blends long-form prog epics (“At the End of the Day,” “The Great Nothing”) with tighter, melodic tracks, all built around the band’s signature mix of complex arrangements and strong hooks.

Featuring Neal Morse, Alan Morse, Dave Meros, Ryo Okumoto, and Nick D’Virgilio, the lineup is locked in throughout. V is often cited as one of their finest moments — a modern progressive rock essential.

In Through the Out Door stands apart in the Zeppelin catalog for a few big reasons. Released in 1979, it’s the band’s most keyboard-driven album, with John Paul Jones taking a much larger creative role as Jimmy Page and John Bonham were struggling personally during this period. As a result, the record leans more toward synthesizers, groove-based arrangements, and experimental textures rather than the riff-heavy sound of their earlier work.

Tracks like “Fool in the Rain,” “In the Evening,” and “All My Love” show a band pushing into new territory at the end of their run. It may not sound like classic early Zeppelin, but it’s a fascinating late-career shift — and proof they were still evolving even in their final chapter.

The Black Album is Metallica’s biggest release by far — the one that took them from thrash metal giants to one of the biggest rock bands in the world. The streamlined songwriting and cleaner production were a massive shift, and I’ll admit: it took me years for this one to grow on me.

Even if it’s not my personal favorite, there’s no denying its impact. With hits like “Enter Sandman,” “Nothing Else Matters,” “Sad But True,” and “The Unforgiven,” this album became a cultural milestone and remains Metallica’s best-selling record by a huge margin.
