It’s Fire Safety Week 🚒🧯🔥

Our resident firefighter, Ms.Nicole, did her annual presentation for our friends these past two days. She taught us what to do in case of a fire, a firefighters role and how they keep us safe and the purpose of the suit and tools. We even got the opportunity to try on the gear, it was so heavy! 👩‍🚒

Thanks Firefighter Nicole!

Watching young children play with blocks may look like simple, classic play on the surface.

But as children stack, balance, and create structures, they are doing so much more than playing—they are developing foundational skills to support growth across every area of learning.

At Harmony, we recognize that block play is one of the most valuable experiences we can offer young children—and that our block areas are actually spaces of discovery, imagination, collaboration, problem-solving, and storytelling, where a rich, complicated education unfolds in real time.

Sound too good to be true? We promise you—it isn’t!

As blocks are stacked, they are transformed from static cubes of wood into plans, stories, inventions, and solutions to problems encountered along the way.

Through block play, children are not only building structures, they are building confidence, relationships, persistence, and a lifelong love of learning.

There’s something magical about a rainy day when you’re dressed for it. 🌧️

At Harmony, we believe there is something to savor in every kind of weather. Rainy days bring puddles to splash in, mud to explore, water to collect, and a familiar landscape transformed.

And the right gear makes all the difference. Rain pants, waterproof boots, a good raincoat, or a rain suit give children the freedom to fully embrace the experience.

Because childhood is meant to be lived in all kinds of weather. 🌿💧

Before the children at Harmony even experience Story Workshop, like they do in PKK, they learn stories that are told by their teachers in a few different ways. One way the teachers tell these stories is using props, or enchanted storytelling✨ Seeing story told this way inspires young children to tell them tell their stories using props and loose parts 📖

This child in Preschool has been seeing and hearing the story of The Scarecrow’s Hat and set up her own rendition to tell her friends during choice time. Seeing learning and inspiration unfold in real time is such a gift 🤗

On the first day of school, the pieces of this puzzle were scattered across the floor as children moved around them, busy with other interests.

I sat down and began quietly gathering the pieces. Soon, the child who had been working on the puzzle returned. We moved it to a quieter space and began sorting and searching for connections.

Slowly, other children gathered. Some watched. Some helped. Some searched for just the right piece.

And when the final piece found its place, everyone cheered.

Some of these children were returning to this classroom. For others, everything was brand new. Yet on their very first day, they had already found a way to come together.

I thought about this moment often throughout our first week as I watched similar moments unfold across Harmony—children making space for one another, joining in, helping, reconnecting, and beginning new friendships.

Sometimes belonging begins simply by finding a place beside someone else on the floor. 🧩

We get a lot of questions from families about nap and rest time at Harmony—understandably so! As parents ourselves, we deeply understand that well-slept children create happy households, a functional schedule, and (hopefully!) well-slept parents—whereas under-rested children struggling with disrupted sleep can mean quite the opposite.

Children’s sleep or lack thereof similarly impacts time away from home too. Adequate sleep allows a child to focus, acquire new information and skills, regulate emotions, and make positive behavioral choices—each of which comes into play throughout a school day surrounded by peers.

In the early years, children are exposed to so many new experiences, and absorbing so much at every moment, their bodies and brains need to pause during the day to recharge and reset for a new session of learning and exploration before bedtime. Whether this pause should be true sleep or simple quiet time varies for each individual child, based on a variety of factors.

And all of the above contribute to why we build our full-day programs around an intentional, carefully timed rest period in the early afternoon.

We can’t believe how fast our summer program flew by ☀️ 💦

We spent 7 weeks playing, exploring, being curious, making friends, singing songs, and telling stories which made every minute so joyful and wonder-filled! 😊

We are sad the summer is over but we are so excited to welcome our school year friends in a couple short weeks! 📚✏️

We completed our Diaper Drive and dropped off with today 🌳

A BIG thank you to our Harmony Families who always show up in a huge way for our fundraisers and their community. 🫶 Even during a very busy time of year we collected so many diapers and wipes for families in need! 👶🧷
