Shotokan Karate of Newbury Park Shotokan Karate of Newbury Park Shotokan Karate is a traditional Japanese martial art practiced world-wide.

Its founder, Gichin Funakoshi, blended two styles of martial arts he learned as boy on Okinawa into what is now called Shotokan Karate. Shotokan Karate is considered a hard-style of karate, due to its powerful kicks, strong linear techniques, and low rooted stances. The emphasis of training is to build a strong character while conditioning the body.

Testing is coming up for our summer students. We will be testing eligible students for promotions during the regular class times (no need to make special arrangements.) from Monday July 20th through Thursday July 30th. While testing is optional, after talking to our parents, we realize that consistent testing and promotions are necessary to keep our students motivated. All promotions here are significant, including stripes. We will be sending test forms home to be filled out, and all students will go through the test process. Students that do not fill out the forms will do the test as practice. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. Important dates for Summer: July 20th – July 30th. Testing for eligible students. Thursday August 6th. Last day of class for this semester. Monday August 24th. First day of Fall semester.

Make the best of your summer!
Our schedule will remain unchanged for summer. With vacation schedules and other commitments, please remember that students can do make up classes before and after missing classes to stay up to date. White/Yellow Orange belts: 4-5 P.M. Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Advanced Orange/Green/Blue belts: 5-6 P.M. Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Purple, Brown and Black belts: (Youth) 6-7 P.M. Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
Adult beginners. 7-8 P.M. Mondays/Wednesdays. Advanced Adults 7-8 P.M. Tuesdays/Thursdays.

Our last class of this Spring semester is Thursday June 4th.
We will start the Summer semester Monday June 15th, after a 1 week break. Summer registration is now open.
Remember that students can do drop in classes during the summer since vacation schedules may vary. Pro-rated classes are also available to help with your schedule.
