New on the blog, from Coach Dave.

Parents ask what their kids actually get out of a robotics team. Dave coaches our FIRST Tech Challenge team and one of our FIRST LEGO League teams, so he wrote it down.

The short version: engineering habits (build, test, measure, improve), real code (blocks first, then Java and Python), teamwork when something breaks on competition day, and a track record colleges notice. A 10-year Brandeis study found FIRST alumni far more likely to major and work in STEM.

Full post, with a parent FAQ, at newburghcreates.com/blog. Link in bio.

Two FIRST LEGO League teams start the week of September 14. The FIRST Tech Challenge team is forming now.

Every season starts the same way. A pile of LEGO on the table, a blank strategy sheet, and a room full of kids who think there's no way this is going to work.

Then something clicks. The robot actually moves. Somebody finally gets that attachment to stay on. And a few months later, they're standing at a competition explaining their design to a judge like they've been doing this forever.

That's the whole thing. That's why we're here.

That's FIRST LEGO League.

This year's challenge is BIOGLOW. Biodiversity, habitats, and the tech that helps protect them. Teams pick a real problem, dig into it, and build a robot that does addresses.

Ages 9 to 14. Weekly, 4:30 to 6:30 PM, starting the week of September 14.

You don't need any experience. Most of our kids had never built a robot before their first season.

Come build something with us.

Week one of Junior Coding Lab is underway!
This week, our campers got hands-on with Scratch, a visual programming language that makes coding intuitive and fun for young learners. They built their first animated projects, practiced pair programming, and picked up skills that go way beyond the screen: sequencing, logic, and creative problem-solving. We can't wait to show you what they build next.
