Ideas for the Reluctant Homeschooler

We quit traditional school 4 years ago and have been homeschooling ever since. One of the many beautiful things I noticed was no more “Sunday scaries.” Instead of dreading a new week of early mornings and rushing out the door, we welcome it with more of he same from the previous week: slow mornings, read aloud times, and family togetherness. So much more peaceful!

Now that we have started combining different curriculums for my 7th grader rather than using an all in one, I decided to use AI to create a tracker that my daughter could use that showed her progress for each subject and allowed her to manage her time better. Wanted to share mine in case you wanted to create your own as well. Happy homeschooling!

Love using this book to focus on a virtue that we are either emphasizing or struggling with as a family. It contains short stories, fables, historical references, and poems that all point to a particular set of virtues including perseverance, faith, self-discipline, courage, etc. 🏠 📚 ❤️

I realize the irony of this statement on this platform, but who else is trying to analog their life? Real books, real clocks, real music, real conversations….. Let’s teach our kids the old school ways. 🏠 📚 ❤️

Teaching our children character skills like honesty, integrity, and kindness wins everyday over trivial things like multiplication and sentence diagramming. It took me a long time to learn this though! 🏠 📚 ❤️

The longer I homeschool the more I re-evaluate the goal of education. I began by thinking I had to recreate a school-like setting with traditional school like rhythms. However as I get closer to the time our homeschool journey is over, I’ve begun thinking more that goals should be about who my children are becoming and less about what they know. Character building has become more important than knowledge building. Just some thoughts on another manic Monday. 🏠 📚 ❤️

Homeschooling can at times feel isolating and that you have chosen the path less travelled. But keep in mind that according to Robert Frost, that has made all the difference. 🏠 📚 ❤️

The longer I homeschool, the more I think about this. Not to say the others don’t have value, but when we really look at the long term goals of education, what we choose to spend our time and energy on matters. ❤️📚🏡
