From Jerry Downs, our Digital Photo Academy Instructor in San Francisco - In Grand Cayman, in the Caribbean, they don’t have what most of us would call Fall. They do, however, have sea grape leaves leaves that look like this when they fall from the trees any time of year.

Digital Photo Academy instructor Jerry Downs in San Francisco shares this composition tip in our October Photo Primer:

"👻 Look for a Frame That’s Already There
You don’t always need to create a frame around your subject. Trees, branches, doorways, windows, and arches can do the work for you.
In these photographs, the tree trunks and branches surround the roadway, creating a natural frame that directs your eye toward the bright opening in the distance. The narrowing space also adds a strong sense of depth."

Every month, our newsletter explores a different photography theme. October is all about Halloween Photography!

I told you about this book.

Dave is rereading General Smedley Butler's War Is a Racket. He's read it several times and has kept a copy on his desk for years. Our friend and fellow Army veteran Kristofer Goldsmith just wrote the new introduction to this 1935 anti-war classic, and that was all Dave needed to pick it up again. I haven't read it, but I've laid dibs on it after Dave's done. Have you read it?
