Here are the announcements for Tuesday, October 7th:
REMINDER: NHS is a closed campus and students are not permitted to leave campus for lunch. Additionally, students may not have food dropped off or delivered to them at campus. Students are not allowed to bring Polar Cups or โto goโ cups to campus. Water bottles are encouraged and we have several bottle filling stations around campus.
Picture Day is TOMORROW for all 9th through 11th grade students. You can still pre-order photos online (https://swiphoto.com/underclass-prepay-2025-26/) or pay for them on picture day. SENIORS! This will be your last chance to take a senior portrait to be placed into this year's yearbook for any 12th grade student who has not already done so!
Interested in being on stage? Auditions for the NHS production of โThe Priceโ will be held after school today and tomorrow from 3:00 pm until 4:30 pm. All are welcome! See Ms. Talkington for details.
After school CROP sessions for students who are credit deficient for graduation will continue this week after school (Monday through Thursday) in Computer Lab 2 from 3:15 pm until 6:15 pm. Please note we are not able to offer CROP sessions during the school day this year, so this will be the opportunity to earn replacement grades for credit deficiencies until we offer after school CROP sessions in spring, 2026 (dates to be determined). If you have any questions, please contact the NHS Guidance Office ASAP.
The Debate Club will meet after school on Wednesday (October 15th) at 3:00 pm in the NHS Media Center.
ACPS is continuing its Beyond the Bell program, offering virtual after-school counseling and academic advising to help boost academic achievement and emotional wellness for students. For more information, visit: www.sbac.edu/BeyondTheBell.

๐พ ATTENTION ALL ALACHUA COUNTY 8TH GRADE STUDENTS! ๐พ
The Newberry High School Academy of Criminal Justice is pleased to announce our Expo and Open House will be held on Monday (October 27th). The Law Enforcement Expo will begin outside at the NHS Bus Loop at 6:00 pm and the Open House will be held in the NHS Auditorium at 7:00 pm. Please make plans to come out and see all that our Program has to offer, speak with our Academy Director (Patrick Treese) as well as current and former Academy students, and visit with exhibitors about potential career opportunities. Don't miss out on this exciting opportunity to look into your possible future! ๐๐๐ In the spirit of Halloween, law enforcement professionals will have Trick-or-Treat goodies for students who attend (while supplies last). *No costumes, please*

REMINDER: For the safety and security of everyone on campus, please DO NOT open the entrance gate for anyone, even if you think you may know them. Students and visitors MUST ONLY be let into our campus by staff in the NHS Front Office. If you are asked to open the gate, please let them know that they must ring the bell to be buzzed in.

Fall Driver Education
Alachua County Public Schools is offering two options this fall:
๐น Behind-the-Wheel Lab Only โ for students who have already completed a Driver Education classroom course.
๐น Classroom + Lab โ for students who have not yet taken a Driver Education course (earn .5 credit).
Requirements:
โ Must be 15 or older
โ Must have a Learnerโs Permit (for Lab Only option)

Here are the announcements for Friday, October 3rd:
REMINDER: ALL STUDENTS parking on NHS school property MUST have a parking decal and parking is ONLY permitted in designated areas (junior and senior parking lots). NO parking is allowed in any other areas on campus, including along the gym or the football field. If you park in any unauthorized area on the NHS campus, your vehicle is subject to being towed from the property.
Registration for Driver Education LAB ONLY classes is open at the ACPS website: https://www.alachuaschools.net/page/drivered/ . There are three remaining sessions available with a non-refundable $200.00 lab fee. You must already have a valid Learnerโs Permit and submit proof of Driver Education Course completion to be eligible to participate. Girls weightlifting practice begins after school on Monday (October 6th) at 3:05 pm in the NHS Weightroom. You must have your current physical and consent forms turned into the FHSAA Athletic Portal (https://athleticclearance.fhsaahome.org/) in order to participate. ๐ "Shadow Day" for OVMS students is scheduled on Friday (December 5th) from 8:30 am until 11:30 am so you can have an opportunity to take a peek into a day at Newberry High School. This date is based on your CURRENT school enrollment and we cannot accommodate requests for alternate dates. The sign up form to request participation in our Shadow Days will be available starting on Tuesday (October 28th) and close on Wednesday (November 19th). NOTE: Each Shadow Day is strictly limited to participation of 25 students and requests are considered in the order they are received. If your submission is received after that number is reached, your child will be placed onto our waiting list.

๐พ SCHOLARSHIP ALERT! ๐พ
The Florida Division of Food, Nutrition, and Wellness has announced their 2nd Annual Florida Farm to School Essay Contest available to all 9th through 12th grade students. Simply submit an original essay responding to one or three topics celebrating the contributions of Florida farmers and the benefits of eating local foods. Three winners will be chosen to receive up to $3,000 in college funds and in-person recognition at the Florida Farm to School Conference. The deadline to submit your essay is November 17th at 11:59 pm.
